Do you have family portraits taken every year? Hate the hassle of dressing up and bribing the kids into acting happy for the half hour it takes to snap the shot? If you dread the process, or maybe just want something new, check out these great alternatives to the traditional photo portrait.
1. Custom Family Portrait Stamp by Sachi
2. DIY Wooden Doll Family Portrait via Bloesem Kids
3. Personalized Paper Dolls from Jordan Grace Owns
4. Wooden Family Portrait from Star House
5. Family Silhouettes from Blue Cara

Shaw's Original Fir...
Okay, I didn't realize the wooden doll (slide #2) was some kind of a dog(?). I thought it was just the poor old mom with her boobs down to her naval.
Yikes, that second one. Not only does it present everyone as their most unflattering shape, but the dog really does, like nellymom said, look like a lady with saggy boobs.
Love the stamp, paper dolls, and silhouette art! I wish they weren't so expensive, although my husband is pretty artsy and could probably recreate the 2nd two.
The pictures and descriptions are out of order, just fiy :)
Awesome alternative to a family portrait. I agree with Cassondra: love the stamp (might actually do this one!), and the paper dolls. Thanks for sharing!
yeah 1 & 3 are reversed
Nellymom- ahahahhahaha
$90.00 for a stamp is a bit much in my opinion .. even if custom made. YIKES!
I agree about the dog that looks like an elderly woman without 'support'.
My favorite is the Silhouette one...old school is always nice.
Zandi over at radical possibilities does some cute custom portraits too...adorable
I love this artist's "Thumbprint Portraits" as an alternative. They give so much more information than just an image--more like a diary or visual biography.

The artist asks you for a list of books, magazines, movies and other interests and uses paper images of these things as the lines of your enlarged thumbprint. We commissioned them of our then 6 year old identical twins (whose thumbprints are almost exact mirrors of one another) and although their interests are evolving, we all still appreciate remembering what books they were reading, what games they were playing and what obsessions they had at the time.
Yes I love my Zandi portrait @kerrjenn !!!! Her blog radicalpossibility.com is awesome too!

Right, because all of these are easier than posing for a photograph?
A friend who recently got married used a stamp with an image of the couple on the outside of their wedding invites and thank you cards...supercute and easily personalized simple stationary!
I was going to say, I know Jordan Grace Owens is #3, I don't really have a "family" to do a set but I have a magnet set of hers and absolutely adore them!
My husband had Jordan Owens make our paper doll family portrait for my birthday gift a couple of years ago. I absolutely love it, and it gets loads of compliments!
Sachi must have raised her prices in the hours since this came out. Lyonstill quotes the stamp at $90, but I just went to her page and it is now $130.
Great idea for a post!
I also would recommend creating a modern cross stitch family portrait. A great way to bring a somewhat dated concept into today:
