When you love books as much as we do, your house can start to take on the appearance of a small independent bookshop. One trick to keeping your kids from being overwhelmed by too many choices, as well as enticed by new books, is to maintain a small rotating collection of season specific titles for easy browsing. For the last month we've been pulling all our favorite spring books. Here are five new titles that made the cut this year.

Outside Your Window by Nicola Davies (Author), Mark Hearld (Illustrator)
58 inspiring, free verse poems, composed by a zoologist, arranged by season, and celebrating the wonders of nature. Not to mention, absolutely fantastic mixed media illustrations reminiscent of the sort you'd encounter in a vintage kids book from the 60's, only better.

House Held Up By Trees by Ted Klooser (Author), Jon Klassen (Illustrator)
Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, Ted Klooser, with Jon Klassen (of I Want My Hat Back fame) providing the art, a bittersweet tale about trees taking over a once well-manicured lawn and eventually lifting an abandoned house off its foundation.

Gem by Holly Hobbie
A nearly wordless story of a garden toad, full of detailed ink and watercolor paintings, and the lesson that "Toads are not pets. They want to be free, like everything does."

Unbeelievables by Douglas Florian
A nice mix of punny poetry, mixed media paintings, and science, covering everything from the anatomy of honeybees to the role of drones and workers, and even a poem on colony collapse disorder.

And Then It's Spring by Julie Fogliano, Erin E. Stead (Illustrator)
A really terrific book about the dramatic transformation from winter to spring, from brown to green, and the long wait one must endure in anticipation for a garden to sprout.
