In a recent post, we asked the question "Do You Use it Up, Wear it Out, Make it Do?" It's hard to deny that we live in a throw-away consumer culture. Thankfully Boston has an old-fashioned repair shop that can bring some of your household objects back to life. Find out which items you can fix below the jump...
Fix Masters, a one-man shop in West Roxbury, fixes the following items: lamps (including antique lamps), toasters, coffee makers, juicers, blenders, other food processors, electric shavers, irons, hair dryers, clocks, vacuum cleaners, and battery powered vehicles.
The Fix Masters reviews on Angies List are glowing and several people refer to incredibly affordable prices (e.g. blender repaired for $10!). So next time you assume your appliance has reached the end of its life, give Fix Masters a call!
Have you had any experience with Fix Masters and/or can you recommend other local repair shops?

This is great - I have two blenders that are each working at about 50% capacity, when one dies I just finish up the mixing on the other...Cleanup, obviously, becomes a bit ridiculous.
Here's hopin' he can fix up at least one!
I've been to Fix Masters twice - once to repair the cord on my grandmother's old sunbeam mixer ($15) and another to fix the switch on a new lamp ($10). I would definitely recommend it.
This was my first time to Fix Masters trying to restore my mothers mixer. I was told the amount of time it will take and it took 2 1/2 months. When I called asking for a reciept with the work that was performed I was told "I don't do that". I then realized that a piece of the mixer was broken and the owner took no responsibility or offered to correct it. I was no impressed with his work, and when I questioned him he became rude and unreasonable. I will never go to this person again. In the end, the mixer was never restored, it was only cleaned and had things fixed that didn't need to be fixed. Don't go here and expect you will get what you want done.
