Small bicycle-filled entryways rejoice! There is now a full sized urban bicycle that folds flat to nearly disappear and stay out of the way — and it's quite stylish too.
The simple concept for Thinbike is the result of a collaboration between TreeHugger founder Graham Hill and German bicycle company Schindelhauer (where Thinbike can be special ordered).
How does it work? With a simple twist the handlebar swivels to reduce the bike's width from 22" to only 8". To get even slimmer, you can flip the pedals down to prevent bruising your shins.

Holy!
$1500+ For a belt-drive fixie...
...Not including the folding pedals and headset?
Makes my Strida 5.0 look like a bargain!!!
Creepy! It looks like one of the Ghost Bikes.
"Makes my Strida 5.0 look like a bargain!!!"
Ditto.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that was creeped out by the 'design' on this one...
Wouldn’t it be cheaper to just get a set of those trick pedals and handlebars for an existing bike?
WOW bepfs! is it really $1500??? you poor Americans!
These kind of bikes can be bought in my country for a couple of hunderd bucks! And we've got these things for maaaaaaaany years now!
I do really love it's design btw ^_^
I have a Dahon espresso 26' bike...costs half as much and looks so much prettier!
@pinkandfluffy
So what IS your country ???
I'd buy this for "a couple hundred bucks".
No hipster fixie for me. If I were buying a bike that I needed to store in a small space, I'd buy a real bike, a Brompton: http://www.brompton.co.uk/page.asp?p=3059
I second the comment made by Taksa- it is incredibly creepy! I would NOT ride a bike that looks like a ghost bike.
Ugh. Hate is always directed as some minority. It's pretty obvious hipster hate is in. Not just here.. everywhere.
Ok.. getting off my soap box....
pinkandfluffy are you from the Netherlands?
@t3d @Tamarind.
Yeah, I'm from the Netherlands. I've seen these kind of bikes here before... almost the exact design. I'm trying to remember what brand it was, when I find out I'll get back at you! And it was about €300 ($380)
Looks great - but a girl can dream!
"I'm trying to remember what brand it was, when I find out I'll get back at you! And it was about €300 "
Yes, but this brand is 1195 Euro.
We have less expensive brands here as well - and yes, folding pedals only run $20/pair, tho couldn't find a quick-release headset...
BTW - P&F
Loved visiting the Netherlands a couple summers back - Very much enjoyed Kinderdijk and Rotterdam...
...and got to see your Queen christening a new ship!
would love to mod my handlebars to do that, would make storage so much easier. It would still have to be nice and sturdy though
wonder how durable the folding pedals are.
The folding pedals are pretty tough, I had them on an old Dahon, great on the commuter train or tight bike racks too.
Don't see why you would need a special headset, just a regular threadless stem with a single allen key to secure it to the steerer. the top cap will hold your adjustment, realigning to get ready to go will take less than 30 sec. Or go old school and convert an old steel bike with front facing dropouts to a fixie, the quill type stem is even easier to twist to 90 then back to normal (probably less than $100 for the whole project)
BTW it will be less narrow if you have grips on the bars or brake levers.
