Flensted Mobiles: Perpetually in Motion

"Uromager"= "a maker of things mischievous and always on the move". It's no wonder this was the nickname of the Danish creater of the celebrated Flensted mobile, Christian Flensted. Designed so that they're in constant movement, these light and airy works of art prove that mobiles don't have to be a tangled mess of clunky plastic or stuffed animals.

Appropriately, these floating fairylands come to us all the way from the island of Funen in Denmark, the birthplace of Hans Christian Anderson. There are plenty of designs to choose from, from swallows to regattas, and they're ready to hang right out of the box. Our current favorite is the circular bunnies. It truly is amazing how delicately they move to and fro without any effort on your part. Check out the Flensted website for ideas. Many nursery design stores carry them, but a wide selection can be found at Mini Jake in Brooklyn.
