Though many of you may believe that cardboard furniture should remain a last resort for college kids only, there are plenty of designers out there experimenting with this eco-friendly alternative to traditional construction materials. Much of the cardboard furniture we've seen tends to play up the structured lines of the ordinary cardboard box so it is the sinuous curves of this line that draws our attention.
Admittedly, Flexible Love is a strange name for a line of seating, but the concept and the execution are actually quite appealing. These pieces are made from recycled paper and recycled wood waste, and utilize an accordion-like honeycomb to create an expandable seating area. A simple tug on each end stretches the piece to accomodate more guests, making it the ideal seating option for a small space. best of all, it doesn't really look like it is made of cardboard, and important design element for many of us looking to incorporate a cardboard piece into an existing home.

Nomade Express Slee...
I hope that girl in the short skirt isn't gonna try to sit on that thing. Ouch!
Molo does the same thing, but better. Plus, they make beautiful lights and walls.

It's kind of cool looking, but I'll bet it's not as cheap as reuse of second-hand treasures, and the life span of paper is way shorter. If this is standard corrugated cardboard, the acid content of the paper will cause it to degrade too fast to consider it more than temporary seating. Even if it's rag paper as a base, you have the problem of liquids -- I don't have any seating that never gets wet from spilled drinks, pets with wet feet, or other minor events. With paper, especially white paper, this would be much more catastrophic.
I suppose if you look at this as art, it's interesting, but I can't afford to NOT be more pragmatic than that.
Imagine that -- living with 3 cats!
Sigh. This design is at least a year old and has already been covered by AT and every other design blog on the planet. A quick, easy search would have revealed that. Whatever AT pays its staff and freelancers, it's too much.
Nice. Like the idea of using cardboard.

@1050908 ~ We have two dogs and a cat, and they love it! Despite being made from cardboard and wood, the units are very durable.
@SherryBinNH ~ We have been in business for over three years, and I have not been made aware of one unit that has 'degraded' - with regular care there is no expected expiry date on these units. The units stand up to minor 'spills' and the 'Earth' units do not show the stains, but don't expect to leave them outside during any rain...
