When it comes right down to it, terra cotta pots end up being one of the most inexpensive ways to have a container garden. But they aren't always full of personality. We love what Apartment Therapy reader Adam did to spruce his up a bit. A simple coordinating color stripe to match the flowers in the pot makes his outdoor space bright and cheery without being over the top. Click through to see more...
Adam had a little left over paint hanging around from a previous project and decided to liven things up on his patio. By placing the plants by the door, he's able to enjoy the flowers both indoors and out! You can see more of Adams Spring Cure makover changes from his Flickr set documenting all his hard work!
Thanks Adam!

I love this idea. We just recently planted marigold and begonias in terra cotta pots as well and thought they look nice, I was wondering how to make them livelier. Thanks!
For some reason, it never occurred to me that you could paint terracotta pots. I have at least a dozen of them and am already brainstorming color schemes. Great suggestion!
crazy, i JUST did this myself. got some pots and the dollarstore and couldn't stand how new and garishly orange they were. i sprayed them with some ruby red paint and the pots kind of sucked up the paint, giving them a really cool just rosy glow. now i love them!
glad you liked this sarahrae!
like hla said it does absorb a lot of paint, it took a few coats to get decent coverage. I'm glad i decided to just do the rims and the trays because I wouldn't have had enough paint the way the clay sucked it up to do full coverage on them all.
I will have to take new pictures tomorrow. I took these right after purchasing the flowers and potting them, they have since perked up and exploded with many more blossoms with the nice weather. Looks so pretty.
What type of paint did you use?
I used painted terra cotta pots as a cheap way to decorate for a baby shower. The mom-to-be was decorating her nursery with ladybugs, so we had a black and red theme. I spray-painted several small terra cotta pots black, hot glued red ribbons around the rim, and planted a variety of red flowers in them. I bought the cheap bedding flowers, so they were about a dollar a piece. It looked really cute and cost less than thirty dollars for everything, including pots, flowers, ribbon, dirt, and spray paint.
