When we're you're looking to add more storage or display space to a room, it's a good idea to think vertically. Jennifer goes vertical and hangs a shelf over the window for displaying her vintage globes--genius DIY. Her process after the jump!
She mentioned that the previous homeowners left an old piece of wood--so she decided to put it to good use. Sanding away imperfections, she chose to paint the reclaimed wood and attach antique brackets on each side.
After a lengthy search, Jennifer found the vintage map she was looking for (and always knew it would end up as a window covering). We love the "worldly" theme and think this is a great DIY idea for adding display space in a room.

I do not like this, besides looking very ghetto and the map looking hideous along with the colours, the shelf is not practical; unless you are really tall or the ceiling really low how can you use the globe when it is sitting high up there at all.
yikes iroh. i encourage the choice of a less offensive adjective.
@iroh. I believe Jennifer is using the shelf to display items (not necessarily access them on a regular basis).
I gathered that the globes are more for decoration than for active use, so not being able to use them when they're on the shelf is probably a non-issue.
This would be perfect for a kids room.
love this! am copying this, now i can justify purchasing the old school maps i saw at the salvage store.
I apologize, my choice of words might have been too harsh for some.
