Regardless of its previous owner, Liz tells us the doors transformation to a table was quite easy. She wanted to keep the charming character of the door and kept it as-is (except for sanding away rough edges). A custom glass surface which turned out to be way less expensive than originally thought made this DIY super sweet. IKEA legs underneath and mismatched dining chairs round out the eclectic look. Liz continues her DIY prowess by remaking a tattered chair into something brand new.

Perfect timing! I need a long, but narrow table and had the same idea to use a door, but the potentially pricey glass top is making me hesitate. Now I'll investigate further.
i love door tables! i want one in my future dream house (;
That's rad. I'm going to do that for my next desk.
Liz - great job on that table but where can I find that bowl?
It's a *Doors* table!
beautiful kitty!
Thanks so much for the shout out Beth! This is a great write up. Zipper and I thank you all for your kind comments.
Lella - the bowl is Jonathan Adler, see it here:

You can also buy it at his boutique on Melrose.
I like this and it works great in your space, too. The mismatching chairs theme works especially well with such a repurposed piece... How much was the glass? Sorry, didn't mean to pry...but I am quite curious... Again, nice job.
Thanks Liz. There's a Jonathan Adler shop right around the corner from my house in SF. I'm on my way there now :)
Thank you Bittergaymark. I had the glass cut custom, it is 3/8 in. thick with a pencil polish edge. The dimensions are 30 in x 62.5 in, so it is on the large side. I paid $127 total. I highly recommend Dean at 55 Glass downtown. Here's a link: http://55glass.com/
I picked mine up to save on delivery charges, but they will deliver too. I had called many places that were quoting me between $250-$350. You can get stock glass for much less, but if you need a weird size, 55 Glass is the way to go. Quite the endorsement I've just given them, I know...
hi liz! love this idea.
what did you do about the legs?
i am about to buy a door and make this my project but would not even know where to start buying table legs....?
