That is *quite* a make-over! The new kitchen looks stylish and inviting! I love that the cabinets are all different heights. And the purple looks great. Bravo!

Adorable kitchen but I can't get past the upper cabinets not reaching the top of the ceiling and the ones above the fridge should have been brought out to maximize this space.

Yes the transformation is amazing and the color is great - but I agree with the others that the upper cabinet arrangement is just "too precious" and not very space efficient, particularly in this small kitchen.

Perhaps with more cabinet space, they could get some of the crap off the countertops and the cereal boxes on the top of the fridge could be put away...

Great decision to move the refrigerator! It vastly improves the flow.

To those who pooh-pooh the height of the cabinets - consider how high the ceiling is. You would have to be constantly pulling out the step stool to reach items that far up. And I don't mind that they are at varying heights.

But put the cereal boxes away, for chrissakes...

Paint color: I can't find the paint chip, but here is a photo of the paint label. It's Duration by Sherwin Williams in a satin finish; they can mix you the same thing.

Staggered Cabinets: The ceilings are 11' and the largest cabinets we could get that weren't custom are 42". While I agree we lost a little space by staggering, 42" cabinets feel very looming to me, and I didn't want to feel loomed over. So, we staggered them with 36" cabinets. We also staggered them to highlight the glass cabinets a bit.

Re: seaside - because the ceilings are so high, we would have had to build a very large soffit to make the cabinets reach the ceiling. We weren't into that idea, and so chose to stagger them for some visual interest.

As for crap on the counter... Hey, I'm just a crap on the counter kind of girl. I have enough counter area to work, so I don't sweat clutter anymore.

2 years later it's nearly done. I just ordered the crown molding for the shorter cabinets, and I still have to do the pesky backsplash.

PS - point taken, I will banish the cereal boxes to the cupboard.

I think the cereal boxes should be left wherever the owner damn well pleases.

The problem with cereal boxes is they never fit inside the cabinets. I have mine on their sides and they still poke out a quarter inch.

Nothing wrong with a kitchen that looks lived in, I get tired of seeing the staged rooms that look like something you would see in a boring showroom.

Crazy Betty - The cabinets are made by Kraftmaid. The door style is "Newburgh" in maple and the color is "vanilla bean glaze." The glass inserts are "Yorkshire." We ordered the cabinets through Home Depot, and paid a little more to get the plywood construction rather than the particle board. This makes them much longer lasting (which is about the greenist thing I can think to do - prevent things from winding up in the landfill). Kraftmaid was a fantastic company to work with - very well made cabinets, and exceptional customer service.

I wasn't actually sure which was the before and which was the after.
