Flickr Finds: A Musician's Corner Desk Alternative

This music/computer room by Unplggd reader, Alfonso Surroca, takes advantage of a small space by mounting a shelf with extra sheet rock support for his iMac beside his digital piano. It's simple, sparse, and functional. A Clean House dream come true.

One main benefit of turning a wall shelf into a desk, other than the amount of space saved, is the fact that you almost have to control your cords since it's such a small footprint.

Sure, he could go completely minimal and hang the iMac on the wall, but there are times where having a little space to put your coffee becomes beneficial with a wall shelf. The iMac's footprint is so small that it makes it possible to create a complete workstation that's both fully-functional and yet, light as a feather.

Anyone know where that desktop comes from? I'm looking to do this exact same thing.

I talked to Alfonso. He was very helpful. This is a mishmash of Ikea hardware and an Ikea wooden shelf.

I actually got the idea from an old post at Apartment Therapy, so I guess it has come full circle by appearing on part of AT!

After putting the rest of the music gear, especially a large drum set, I'm even more glad I decided to go with this space-saving shelf/desk.

I can't believe we're the point that a computer setup only has one wire. I thought we'd never get there.
