Living in small spaces, or even larger spaces with small areas such as this hallway, it is often easy to let space go un- or under-utilized. Allison the Valiant, over at Flickr, has an image of this great skinny bookshelf that makes the most of a small, potentially awkward, space.
Most tower units that we found were under the "bathroom furniture" category in stores online. There seem to be a great variety of these slim shelving systems that are intended for the bathroom, a traditionally tighter space. We love the idea of pulling them out of the bathroom and putting them in some smaller areas of our home that are traditionally skipped over for storage. these would work to add storage in small kitchens too
I love the hat tree that's sprouting out the top.
Is that one of those flat panel electric heaters I spy behind the cabinet? We have them and seriously they are the WORST. THING. EVER. No heat, enoooooourmous utility bill... just wondering if anyone else shares the pain. I really like the look of the little cabinent too, although am I the only one who would like it to be just a little bigger? It looks so "tippy" as it is-- I feel like our cats would make short work of it!
It's all just stunning..
I have the Ikea Molger tower in my dining area, and it works out really well. I searched for a while to find one I liked and that fit that space, and I actually looked at quite a few bathroom towers.

Wow. that hat tree is a great idea for displaying a collection. Unfortunately, most of my hats are the soft, shapeless, wooly kind, so they'd just hang there like blobs.
I wish I'd bought one of those tree things at Ikea before they stopped selling them.
I'd never thought of using a bathroom tower in the kitchen. DUH. Glad I saw this... a whole new world has opened up in front of me, and it's ever so well-organized.
This size of cabnishelf is readily available on Craigslist in the <$60 range. I had to bypass many until I found my recent bookshelves.
