What a beautiful home. AT reader Asliee just posted this new photo to Flickr. It's a black and white, wide angle shot of her living room. It gives us a great overall sense of her place. See her Flickr slideshow for more views.
This shot acts as a sort of key to all of the other closeup color photos on her Flickr page. It gives you an idea of how each part relates to the whole...
And we like the feeling of the black-and-white photo. It takes the viewer back, and is fitting for this old Brooklyn Heights beauty of an apartment.
(Thanks, Asliee!)

It's beautiful.
Your home looks so peaceful. I really like to look of the white sofa, but way the photos are taken, I can't make it out from the front side. What I really want to know is who makes it. I am looking for something very similiar for my own living room.
I love the red print in the 8th picture on your slideshow. Could you tell me the artist?
Wow - thanks Regina. It's an honor to be featured here :) And you just caught me organizing my flickr page...
Coming to the questions, Lisa - the white couch is an old Jennifer Convertibles sofa - about 2 yrs old, but I believe they still carry the same one in the stores. I could look up the style name for you.
Kelli - not sure if it's still the 8th one as I was literally shifting things around, but I believe you're referring to the Chagall lithograph. I found it in a flea market a little while ago, and it's one of my favorite pieces of art in my apartment.
Thanks for the great comments. I owe so much of the beauties in my home to ideas I got off AT :)
What a beautiful apartment! I love the color on the living room walls... And I have a question, sort of a general one, but Asliee coule probably answer it. Where is a good source for getting live branches like you have on your mantle? And what are those- cherry tree branches? I'd love something like that for my entry hall, but have a hard time finding anything but faux branches (from crate & barrel and the like) or else pussy willows at my local market. Would love something flowering like yours.
Thanks for the help and for sharing your photos!
(This is in no way meant to be snarky--I love Asliee's apt and everything's she done with it, especially in terms of maximizing the space.) Asliee, your place appears to mix modern and vintage, and it comes off wonderfully. The only thing that stands out to me as feeling a little out-of-place is your table and chairs. I think something a little cleaner, maybe a vintage set in the style/era of your coffee table, would pull the space together and make it even more beautiful...
To ESP,
They are indeed cherry blossoms. I buy them at a local store called Seaport flowers (http://seaportflowers.com/) and I love it. They're a bit pricier than regular flowers, but a branch or 2 is usually enough, and they last so much longer... I bet you could find them in a local flowershop...
To Carrie - thank you for your kind words. My apartment is actually an ever-changing place (ask my husband and he'll tell you that I'm crazy :)), so yes there are lots of different pieces of furniture from different eras, but that's mainly what I like about them. I really like the dining room chairs which I found for dead cheap in a flea market, but I'm with you on the dining room table that it looks a bit too country with this decor. I'm also seeking something cleaner, but I don't think it will be for a while...
This has been one of my favorite slideshows of late. Looks elegant but lived-in. Love the coffee table. Asliee, what kind of gray is that in the living room? Is it kind of blue-green? Can you provide the name?
Where did you get the brown coffee table? I love it!
Kelli, the red picture is a Marc Chagall lihograph; can't tell if it's one of the limited edition "originals" or a repro.
Julie & Marge -
Thanks for the nice comments!
The coffee table is a recent Ebay find - after long and painful months of searching. It really is a fine piece. I love it.
The wall color is a greenish gray color of the Home Depot brand Behr. Need to do some digging to see if I can find the exact color...
wow. beautiful. i love how the work desk just melds into the room, i can't seem to get our 'home office' just right. love your desk, the legs are fantastic.
if you think the table is too country, paint it glossy black. we spray painted our old 'country' table with a high gloss black and love it. we couldnt afford a new table and since we weren't terribly fond of it, we tried the black paint and love it. i thought it would be too much black and be very imposing on our small space but its really nice.
Jane
It's actually a great idea! I'm so into glossy black now, I just painted my door black and have some paint left. I was actually thinking of painting the little white IKEA sideboard by the dining table and changing the knobs...but the dining table didn't occur to me..
My only concern is that it's actually a fine pine table, and I'm not sure how hard it would be to strip if need be. ( I'm a newbie to DIY :)
But I really like this idea - do you have a pic of your table?
Thanks
Lovely! Great job...
Great job Asliee, and to live in Brooklyn Heights with a water view, you are a very lucky lady!
Holly
great looking apartment - am curious on dimensions - think your space is a bit wider than ours but not sure. Can you pls confirm how many fet across and in length? Thanks!
Hi Holly - yes I know. I remind myself everyday :)
Arod - the living room is actually a square -17*17 in size.
Gorgeous!
I love the coffee table too! It's the first thing I reacted to aloud!
Also like the lamp with the etched glass base. Am I safe in assuming you made that?
WOOOWWW Asli'cigim I love what you have accomplished with your apt. I quess all these wonderful comments agree that you did a terrific job. Congrats!
agreed, the chairs are super cute and since you love them you should keep them! i also love the country-style desk chair and curvy desk together. glossy black paint on the table would definitely help it blend in. ooh, but i have to say i really like that little white sideboard... picks up the pops of white from the couch and bookshelves. the place itself is gorgeous of course. we are looking to move right now and i am on the hunt for both natural light and pretty wood parquet floors like you have.
click chic - thanks for the assumption on the table lamp - I wish I was that talented :)
It's actually a Crate&Barrel lamp I picked up at sale last year, I checked but they don't seem to have the same one anymore...
NY Muhtari - thanks for your comments...You will find many Turkish pieces if you look closely :)
It's a very pretty apartment. If it wasn't for the cold NYC weather I would want to live there. (I live in LA and it was, like, 80 degrees yesterday.) You've done a great job with your space and it's mucho inviting. I can see myself plopping down on the couch, drinking some hot chocolate and reading a magazine in complete comfort.
Tony G.
Thanks Tom!
Kelli,Tom:
I'm sure it must be a repro since I paid something like $25 for it, but I love it!
Tony G - please don't mention the heat, makes me so jealous - it was 13F when I left my apartment this morning!
Asliee:
Hey, you've got a beautiful, marble fireplace -- that works! I'm sure that toasts things up.
(Last time I was in 13 degree weather -- it was 1988 and I was living in Iowa. I miss Iowa but I don't miss the cold.)
Tony G.
you're right - fireplace really helps. but only when I'm home...
