There's something about "before & after" photos that just grab your attention. And when it comes to home renovation, there's something very satisfying about documenting the transformation of a space from what it "was" to what you want it "to be".
Case in point: Check out this before and after we found here in a Flickr set titled Morningside Renovation. Filled with colour, architectural details and some great examples of DIY, we like the overall improvement to their bathroom.
The new bathroom colours work better with the rest of the home, and creates a feel of spaciousness the darker previous version lacked. The curtain around the sink is a good idea for hiding unsightly piping (though we'd much prefer they replace it with a pedestal sink or lower the curtain line a bit lower to expose more of the top part of the sink), and the new faucet hardware matches nicely with the mirror above.
Oh yeah, and they seemed to have removed the carpeted toilet seat cover too. No wonder it looks so much better!

Oh my gosh, this is me. This was done for a quick renovation to sell the house. I didn't want to replace the sink because I happen to like the old sink and skirts for that matter. I grew up with a sink skirt so they are nostalgic for me. The color is BM Barley which comes off a little more golden in person. I don't think it's bad for skin tone since it has golden undertones. The original color was very dark and though I love dark colors it just washed out the room. I used a super cute Parisian themed shower curtain over by the tub that pulled the room and colors together. The tile IS extremely hard to clean but vintage looking and adorable. Also, we left the "hideous" carpet in the master bedroom because it was an addition and didn't have hardwoods under it like the rest of the house. We were on a budget and felt that the new owner could put in what they wanted, hardwoods or new carpet, I even priced hardwoods and a neat industrial carpet but felt in the end they should make their own choice. I did have the carpet professionally cleaned. The house did sell at our full asking price so I guess we did something right.
Oh shoot, I wanted to add, in case someone comes back these many months later that moving electrical hookups for lighting on both sides of the mirror is really expensive. I don't understand how a single globe would look better. I think it would look silly with a single globe sitting there on top of the mirror.
I like the new bathroom look. There's just two things about the skirt that don't work (I realize the house sold and it's not your issue anymore... but ... ) 1. The skirt should be under/ inside the bottom of the sink - not over/ around the outside of the sink. and 2. the skirt is too dark. a cute print would have been lighter and more fun AND nostalgic.

Okay, so while I think Kurt's response is completely hysterical, I also think the homeowners did a great job making improvements on the bathroom for little money. The after pic above is not a good representation, a better one is here:
