Usually when we see bookshelves used as room dividers, they're facing the other way. We know there's probably another shelf or table behind this one, creating enough depth for the chair and the office nook, but we think this is a good idea for hiding the often unappealing side of the bookshelf when it floats in the center of a room.
Other elements we like: the plants, the solid green storage boxes the plants are resting on, and one of our favorite graphic wall calendars.

Unfortunately, it seems as though walking into this room, or sitting in the chair, shows the bookcase in its worst light.
It looks like there's another table or something behind the bookshelf in the picture (unless it's super-deep).
You could always cover the back part of the shelf with art, wallpaper, paint, etc. Even another bookshelf.
there isn't a table, but two green bookcases. probably facing away from each other. unfortunately, they are all different heights. this could be very neat if purpose built instead of jumbled together from whatever.
