These very high-backed chairs at the Trinity Capital Hotel resurfaced again and again on Flickr as we looked at images of the hotel. Seems people just love sitting in them for a photo-op when they're on a fun escape at the Dublin hotel:
We can't blame them - there's something about an absurdly over-sized chair that makes sitting in it just plain fun - whisks you back to childhood! For more on the contemporary-styled hotel, check out Trinity Capital Hotel.

Shaw's Original Fir...
If you want to look like Edith Ann.
A company called Pacific Hospitality Design also offers oversized wingbacks from their "French Modernique" line, made with chrome accents. I think they specialize in commercial upholstery.
Kind of neat, here is their website: http://www.french.phdesign.com/
I'd feel like I was in a Tom Petty video.
The size is great, the fabric is questionable (someone's idea of "whimsical") but the curves of the wings are hideous.
Reminds me of Alice in Wonderland.
I laughed when I saw this because my sister and I stayed there last year and also have pictures of ourselves sitting in them! The hotel is a great one with very comfy rooms and interesting decor...also a very convenient location in Dublin for walking around. Thanks for the memory flashback. :)
Mr Faux - Exactly my thought!
...and that's the truth - Phphphphphhh.
:-P
Mrfaux seriously that was a funny.
I find them totally silly.
I find them grotesque. Reminds me of Saddam Hussein's palace.
I just stayed at the Trinity Capital in April, it was a lovely experience.
I second the comment on this being a nice hotel. And I also have photos of my husband and I sitting in these chairs. I don't think they would work well in many homes but for the right hotel, they're very eye-catching.
In the wrong location they'd be giraffes on a farm. I especially appreciate the fabric! Anything less would be a pointless attempt at camouflaging their largesse. I likie!
Exactly, Kris0218. My thought exactly. I want one so I can dress up as Alice and train my cat to lay on top.
What you need is some Roberto Cavalli textiles and gold leafing!!, then we can talk!
And, oh, please, yes... Get that woman out of the picture!!! Way too much chair, for so little woman!
Haha, I didn't notice the woman until reading the comments. With the size of all the furniture around them they almost look normal. My parents had a pair of wing backed chairs (normal sized) when I was younger so at first I didn't see the big deal with these. One of the Disney resorts also has a pair of chairs and extra large couch like this. I think its the yacht club, but I'm not sure. I just remember sitting up on the sofa when I was younger and feelings SO small (well smaller then normal for that age)!
They make your room look like it was transporter out of Fantasy Land at Disneyland. Maybe Mr. Toad's tea room...
These are in a hotel lobby and in the context of the rest of the hotel public spaces (which have a lot of similarly oversized elements) they work very very well. So well in fact that I have now decided to go there for a drink at the weekend, after not having been for ages. Thanks AT :)
