We've seen some amazing outdoor spaces tagged with "apartmenttherapychicago" in Flickr lately (look for more in the coming days). Jeremy's deck is sunny, simple, and seems well-loved by his beautiful dog. We can totally picture this guy spending his days stretched out in the sun...
We love the uncluttered design of this small deck. Railing planters and a small table and chairs keep the space clear so that Jeremy's four-legged friend can lounge...

Whew! Kinda makes me feel nervous looking at that deck. Guess I'm strange :-]
But very nicely designed! Even the dog matches.
AWWWWW DOGGY!
There is absolutely NOTHING dog friendly about that deck! I don't understand this blog and the way some people design selfishly just for themselves not considering what is good for their dogs or cats.
It looks very nice for humans, but please do not mistake that this is an ideal deck for a dog large or small.
Hopefully the owner takes that poor dog out often to a park where it can run and play like dogs should be able to do.
it does not look dog friendly.
that dog looks very healthy and loved - i don't think the owner leaves this beautiful pooch out on the deck all day. i think it looks like a great space to hang out in the warm sun WITH your dog.
i love that deck color blends so closely with the dog too. heheh love that first pic
What a lovely balcony! (it is a balcony, right? I usually think of a deck as being close to or attached to the ground in some way) This gives me a ton of inspiration for my barely used balcony as its about the same size. I especially love the planters. Any info on where they are from? Thanks!
The containers are from Jayson Home & Garden. The pot with the false cypress is out of stock now and they won't be getting any more in this season. You can see it on their website if you look under containers. They are both a lite terrazo type material and the one with the betula they just got a whole new batch in last weekend.
As for the dog comments, whatever. Please explain how this is designed "selfishly" just for humans and "does not look dog friendly". Note that nowhere in my flickr stream does it claim this is dog friendly. My dog does happen to love it out there though. Spare me the "poor dog" comment too, you know nothing about how he is treated so don't make assumptions. You know what they say when you ASSume ;)
thank you!
Jeremy--
Love the plantings--what direction do you face? Also, do you think you'll want some shade (umbrella? trellis?) at some point?
The deck faces east towards the lake. It can get pretty warm in the late morning, but by early afternoon you begin to get shade near the wall so it isn't too bad. I like having it open so the plants can get the full sunlight and it also feels larger than if it was enclosed.
