We found scmtngirl's lovely handmade origami lights in our San Francisco Flickr account today...

She writes,
As the inaugural project for our newly founded club, the Righteous Legion of SCM (that's Santa Cruz Mountains, baby!) Craftistas, we made these most awesome origami lights. I was the only one who remembered to get Christmas lights, but Karen brought actual origami paper (hmm, why didn't I think of that) as well as some really pretty scrap booking paper, Maren brought beautiful wrapping paper to use, and I had regular pastel copy paper, which we didn't use much of because it just didn't compare to the other papers.

I actually saw the same lights last a few weeks ago, here.
My link includes instructions similar to the ones posted above, but the author of the Folding Trees post makes two additional suggestions - one, use a light-coloured paper, and two, put the balloons on after you've hung up the lights.
