With crimes against furniture on the rise, seeing a before and after which does the original piece justice restores our faith in humanity. This beautifully made Fler armchair was a bargain ebay find and lived in Julie's garage for over a year before the perfect fabric was found. The result is lovely, see the finished project below the jump.
Having the chair reupholstered in faux-leather by Warwick Fabrics, Julie then sanded back the legs and finished them with a few coasts of Danish Oil. Classy and elegant, the chair has been updated in a way that respects it's original condition.
Be sure to visit Julie's blog Olive & Joy for more info on this project and a whole heap of inspiration.

THANK GOD THEY DIDN'T PAINT THE WOOD! This looks amazing!

Agreed, thank you for keeping the wood intact.
love it
Amazing job!
Stunning!
Beautiful transformation!
WHOA!
Absolutely gorgeous. Imagine if it had been thrown in the rubbish- how tragic.
yeah. that's yummy.
looks great - your hard work really paid off!
Beautiful! I want this chair...
very cool.
wow!!!!
The Danish oil is gorgeous!
Great job on oiling the wood.
Gorgeous! Thank you for not painting the wood.
Beautiful work!
"crimes against furniture" - that's too funny!
I held my breath ....
and was pleasantly surprised....
wow....GREAT job!!!! Beautiful.
I was expecting paint and some horrible fabric, but this is fantastic! Well done! I would love to know how much the whole project cost.
Would love to know if you are happy with the feel of the faux leather (i.e. when you sit in it). I have a retro swivel overman chair (in the same brown your chair started in) that needs to be reupholstered and I was contemplating leather but the price$$$. I thought briefly about faux leather but wondered if it would feel squeaky/sweaty? Your result is beautiful...so you may have convinced me to go faux...
The legs look great. Danish oil was the way to go.
MarriedToAZimbabwean, I, too had a chair reupholstered in faux leather, and i really loved the feel. It was a little expensive, but worth it...it felt like leather, held up over time, and was easy to clean. The brand I used was Izit leather, www.izitleather.com.
Gorgeous!
Wow! I was quite surprised to find my little before and after here on Apartment Therapy. Thank you for all your great comments - I have left detailed instructions on how to get the Danish Oil finish in the comments section of the post on my blog.
For those of you who wanted to know the faux leather I used isn't squeaky or sweaty but I have found a more 'real' looking faux leather than the one I used on my armchair. The link Kpaige13 left sounds like a good option for US readers, in Australia try Annahide by Gilda Fabrics.
The reupholstering including Fabric, Labour and new Cushions was around A$600. I ummed and ahhed about spending this much money on the chair for a couple of months but I'm glad I did, it was worth it.
Thank you so much oliveandjoy and Kpaige13!
The stain you chose for the wood is absolutely beautiful!! The wood looks so much happier now! And the white upholstery was a fantastic choice! Very nicely done.
Quick question though? Did you say it took her 1 year (?) to find white faux leather?
