Flo & Wendell by William Wegman

Children's Book Review

Meet Flo and Wendell. They're puppies, they're sister and brother and they get along...sometimes. William Wegman's first children's book in a decade adds a painterly twist to his trademark dog photographs and stars two of his own, lovable pups.

Flo and Wendell are typical siblings, pooch or not. Proximity makes them frequent playmates, but differences in age and personality, not to mention mild sibling rivalry often ends with one of them getting the short end of the stick. Woof. Their namesake book explores their sibling dynamic in a charming, realistic and ultimately sweet manner.

Wegman's loose painting adds warmth, energy and contrast to the photography and the text is simple and infused with deadpan humor. Children will delight in the anthropomorphic depiction of these demure dogs and parents will appreciate the timeless sensibility of the artwork.
