We may be late to the slumber party (we overslept?) but felt it would be remiss not to show off this high tech hovering bed. Designed by Janjaap Ruijssenaars with a price tag of over a $1 million dollars, this is the stuff billionaire dreams are made of/on.
This fascinating floating bed was Inspired by Stanley Kubrik's 2001 film, A Space Odyssey. From Universe Architecture in the Netherlands, magnetic forces push the two slabs apart while cables tether the bed in place.

(A round version was commissioned for the recent Arthur remake.)

I feel like I would trip over the cables!!!
@jpb - lay down on the bed, snip the cables, and go for a ride!
Yet another 'design' project that can't possibly work. The magnetic field required to levitate a bed holding magnets+ the weight of a human are not things that you want in a home environment. Any stray cutlery or other steel items are going to be trying to stick to it from the other side of the room.
There is a reason why you have to remove all rings etc in an MRI machine. Even inch sized NIB magnets are just waiting to smash your bones.
A more detailed and better written explanation here, http://dansdata.blogsome.com/2009/04/16/1-invent-antigravity-2-get-comfortable/
which also covers why it won't actually work as a bed instead of just a floating platform shown in the video. As soon as any weight is put on it, or it tilts it will just fall off, which is presumably why they never touched it.
I would rather have four legs on this bed than four thin cables stretching across the room. design fail.
