Candles are typically our go to item for creating a dramatic and moody table for special occasions and we know we're not alone in this. Floating candles are ideal for a number of occasions — holiday dinners, weddings, birthdays and romantic evenings at home.

Candles are a staple in our lives for a reason — they're inexpensive, easy to use and get the job done. Elevate them to the next level by placing them in a glass vessel filled with water and let them float all night. Tall and skinny, short and plump or a simple glass bowl will do the trick! Along with the water, add some cranberries, flowers or greenery to the vessel for an added pop of color.

Mason jars are all the rage right now and floating candles look amazing in them. Line a walk way or a pool with mason jars filled with water and floating candles and you'll have a super dramatic and beautiful outdoor party!

I love centerpieces that use fresh cranberries.
i'm loving this one! great idea for our Thanksgiving gathering. Thanks, Kristen!!
oh, and I forgot to ask a question earlier.. how long can I leave the cranberry in the jar, since they would be soaked in water..?
I did this for our annual winter party many years ago, and honestly can't remember why I switched to other decor for centerpieces. pier723, I make and use the centerpieces the same day. You could probably get by with making them a day ahead, though. Cranberries last really well in a bag in the fridge, but get kind of gross if they're left in water very long.
Help, I feel a Martha Stewart moment coming on! I like ALL of these. I am going to start some kind of frightening folder for party ideas if you don't stop posting these, God help me.
help! my eyes are attacked !! ...LOVE IT. =)
midnightscientist, thanks for the note!!
Cranberries are my favorite thing about the holidays! So cool that they float. What a great & colorful idea! Funny that you mentioned mason jars - cause I actually just did a post about a Thanksgiving centerpiece that incorporates THREE different sizes of mason jars! Check it out: http://bit.ly/c3mm9N
I am embarrassed to admit, but this is a total revelation to me. And even though I am the least handy person in the world, I could do this! You just stick some berries and flowers and candles here and there!
