They make the room look bigger. They add a new layer of complexity and dimension. They are beautiful objects. And (mixed blessing here) you can see your entire body head-to-toe reflected back in them (gasp!). What's not to love about big and tall floor mirrors?

FIRST ROW
• 1 The mirror in this room, designed by Brooklyn design team at Nightwood, was distressed by hand. It goes so well with the rest of the refurbished furniture. New York Times
• 2 A Mad Tea Party With Alis. I can't get over how stunning this mirror is. I have never seen anything like it. It looks like something out of an old hospital or clinic. And beyond how cool it looks, how great (if alarming) would it be to have a stylish three-way mirror for trying on clothes?
• 3 Automatism. Perhaps my favorite of the bunch, I just love this gorgeous floor mirror, with its delicate frame and elegant curved top.
• 4 Skona Hem. This look is popular these days--a large floor mirror leaning against the wall.
• 5 Inspired Design. This ornate theatrical and enormous mirror is a dramatic antidote to the decidedly modern tables and chairs.
SECOND ROW
• 6 This is Glamorous. Here, a groovy masculine modern sofa sits in front of a very intricately carved and impossibly tall and thin antique mirror. A great contrast!
• 7 Minted Life. A chunky oversized mirror made from repurposed salvaged wood.

OMG. That first room is SOOOOO gorgeous. Want.
Cool Mirrors, no practical information on them, but good inspiration.
I love number one - and have long adored the cottage shown in #3 - since an ancient Living etc...
They're tough to deal with when Moving Day arrives, that's what -- huge, heavy, and breakable. A thousand little shards. But if you're not a nomad like me, yes, they're lovely.
I like the couch a lot (I wonder how low to the ground it really is?) It's like the better and infinitely more expensive version of the ikea sater....
I do tend to like mirrors more than artwork, though.
I have been resisting a relative wanting to foist some huge gilt mirrors on me as I think they might look out of place in our modern home. Also, we have lots of floor to ceiling windows, so not much wall space. They look great here, though. I especially like number 3 - the mirror looks like an arched doorway into another room, and adds another dimension to the space.
Tall mirrors can work especially well when partially obscured by say a plant (as in Picture 3) I think because then you don't immediately register them as a mirror but as an extension of the space.
I have a 3.5 foot tall mirror I want to upcycle. Probably paint white and lean against the wall. I have another one that looks great leaned on top of a short bookshelf. :)
