Last Saturday night, after dinner uptown with the family and in need of a drink, we ducked into the only place in our neighborhood that was still open but quiet at midnight, Blue Ribbon Bakery.
The snow was coming down so beautifully. Drunk people from Mas Farmhouse next door were throwing snowballs in the fluffy street. A woman walked by with her three reluctant bulldogs. A couple kissed, both holding lit cigarettes away from their hips in their gloved hands, their smoke spiraling away in the wind.
The scene was classic New York. (See happy girl slide by.)
So of course, we had to take pictures. It wasn't until later that I looked at the images and realized we were watching this whole winter-y scene with a big flowerbox right in front! Blue Ribbon has kept up their wrought-iron boxes with some nice evergreen plants this year and last Saturday they were covered in clumps of snow, making us feel like we were even more surrounded by it. Glorious!
I couldn't have orchestrated a better little scene. And to top it all off, our drinks were comp'd! We walked home having spent no money and having seen (and luckily photographed) some of the sweetest snowy street scenes ever.
