Now that I've exhausted all the great window boxes and stoop plantings in the Gold Coast (9th, 10th, 11th and 12th Streets between 5th and 6th Avenues), I'm drawn a bit uptown to Chelsea. Last week I profiled an apartment on 22nd street; this week I saw another beauty on 21st.
I'm not sure what drew me in first: how healthy the plants were, the variety of plantings? Maybe it was the fact that the owner clearly had taken that extra step and planted the street tree border in front of the building as well. Maybe it was that the apartment had its windows open, and I imagined how the fresh air was being filtered by those beloved window boxes. Why speculate? Let's just give them this week's award! SKGR
