According to ancient Japanese legend, anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes is granted a wish by a crane, such as long life or recovery from illness. Inspired by this legend, Swiss designer and landscape architect Anouk Vogel folded a thousand origami flowers with a wish for world peace.

Commissioned by the Gardening World Cup, Vogel's serene white garden features delicate paper flowers "blooming" on a circular bed. In creating this project, Vogel illustrated the symbiotic relationship between peace and struggle in her work. Peace demands perseverance and patience. Peace is fragile and requires constant nurturing. These aspects are actualized in her abstract garden, "Folding for Peace."

The origami garden was recently showcased at the Festival of Flowers and World Peace in Nagasaki, Japan, where it was awarded the Silver Medal and the Special Judges Award.
