When I was a kid, I used to love hiding out in a makeshift tent in our living room, with little more than a flashlight and book to keep me busy for hours. If your wee ones are feeling a little stir crazy this winter, why not fire up their imaginations with an indoor camping party?
I'm absolutely crazy about this felt campfire toy from Hopewell Creek Designs. It's so darn cute, from the squishy logs to the faux charred marshmallows. Throw down a couple of sleeping bags, sing a round or two of "Ging Gang Gooly," and finish the evening with some S'mores. It'll feel just like summer!

Baby's first s'more!
We live at 10,000 feet and winter lasts forever! (or so it seems).
Sometimes we have to bring the "outside" to the "inside"!
We have a wood stove that is at ground level. I open the door when the coals die down and the kids roast marshmallows. Its pretty safe since the door swings out of the way and its not super hot on the exterior.
We also put up our small backpacking tent in the living room frequently and the kids will read books and play in it. Its fun for sleepovers and gets things from getting too boring!
***sigh*** is it summer yet?
I have paper "Make-A-Fire" kits in my shop--super easy and fun.

Oh... I think I'll be sewing a few of these kits for friends!!!
FWIW, some of the "Yule log" videos also have a "Campfire" option. I'm so ashamed that I know that.
There's something so depressing about the idea of kids sitting round toasting felt marshmallows over an unflickering fire. Throw in some plastic trees and astroturf undefoot while you're at it for a full night of unbridled misery. Coming soon to a store near you ..... Wii Camping!
I don't think little kids huddled in a fort playing with a pretend campfire is depressing at all! I can just hear my 3 year old whispering to his older brother that he heard a bear outside the fort!
We live in an urban area and can't have campfires outside in the rainy winter. Summer is for camping, winter is for pretend camping. This is adorable!!
