Shaw's Original Fir...
So practical!
It's interesting and combines my two favorite things: books and bikes. However, I'd still rather use a cycloc or just a wall-mounted hook... and for less than $3600, I could just put a bookcase next to it.
That's a hideous price. It's a bookcase with a hook.
If you were willing to part with some of the more elegant features (like the rounded corners, and 3/4 shelves with no visible hardware) anyone could build their own version of this for about $75-100. If you had the skills, you could even copy it exactly. For a little more money, there's probably an IKEA hack that would get you pretty close.
Stupid. There's no reason why people who love books AND bikes need to store them together.
This makes perfect sense, though the price is a bit... much. If you don't have a lot of space and you cannot put holes in the wall, this would be a very clever solution!
Clever concept for reducing the footprint without messing up the walls or ceiling.
The $3,600 price tag serves as an idiot test.
Ditto everyone else's negatives, plus, I don't know how I could even stand facing my books without knocking into the bike. It seems impractical, even aside from the price.
Just to add a gripe: Those are three-quarter shelves... Not very practical for books, or much of anything else.
Get a folding bike.
I'm with the others...why not just have a bike hook mounted to the wall, go to a hardware store and buy a metal bookcase, and have the same exact thing for about $60?
This is not going to solve the bike storage problem for most of us living in small spaces; nor the cost-benefit problem for almost anyone. I also would not put my books next to my bike simply because it's designed that way. There's nothing unique or novel to it. It's a gimmick.
The person willing to spend 3,600 for a bike storage solution has a lot of options that are better than this.
I'll lean my bike against the garage wall and stick an e-reader in the pannier. :) It makes a cute vignette, but it's just not practical. I have a Surly Long Haul Trucker, and the steel frame makes it too heavy to hang from the front wheel without some serious effort. All the things I need for a ride are either clipped to the frame or packed in my pannier.
Agree with D2Pad. Most bikes don't cost as much!
I like the idea, since it doesn't damage the wall. Plus, the storage for bike junk would be nice - so often I have helmets/jacket/locks spewed across my apartment. This just made my Dream DIY list, with designated space for coats/shoes/keys/bike stuff instead of book storage.
My dreams are kind of small, but so is my apartment.
For $165: Buy this tall Bestå shelf unit and don't put any shelves on the left side: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70134044/. Instead, mount one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Delta-Leonardo-Single-Bicycle-Vinci/dp/B000FGTTEW
