Color Inspiration: It was time to move my 4-year-old into a big girl bed, which was the perfect opportunity to re-design her room. My starting piece in the room was the red wooden sentence on the desk hutch that says, "for the fun of it." I painted the desk and hutch in Benjamin Moore's Poolside Blue. Next came the red, pink, and white ikat curtain fabric. The choice of the pink and red allowed me to keep the one holdover from the nursery, the Sherwin Williams Icing pink walls. I wanted my daughter to have a fun room without being too girly or juvenile. The basics of this re-design need to last for a few years.
Tip for Using Color: I let objects in the room dictate the secondary colors. The Pez collection shelved over the closet door and the school artwork hanging on tension wire over the bed bring lots of color without diluting the impact of the main red, turquoise, and pink. I also built in some options with the current design. I fell in love with Victoria Hagan's Summer Squares, but at over $400 per yard it wasn't in the budget for a pre-schooler's room. Randomly, I found a Summer Squares remnant just large enough for one side of the bed cover. For the other side, I chose a $7 per yard quilting fabric in a tiny red and pink burst pattern. The turquoise pillow is solid on one side and has an orange grosgrain ribbon detail on the reverse. When we make the bed, we can mix it up a bit with the options.
Colors Used: Red, turquoise, and pink with bits of all colors around the room.

This room is classy and timeless- it will be an easy room to transform when the 4 year old gets older and wants a more mature room. Any age would love the colors and furniture, all that needs to be changed/removed are some of the more pre-school accessories.
I like that this room is put together and has a decorative flair, but is still quirky and not too formal. It's perfect for a little girl, but is not too girly and childish and still gives her room to grow and explore.
We have the same Jenny Lind bed...it was my mom's as a child. Love the room.
Love the light!
I like the curtain fabric - I have always liked pink and red together. For some reason I always find this color combination refreshing and unexpected. And, of course, the light adds a touch of twinkling shimmer for the evening dinosaur dances.
I love this room!!! I love the red, turquoise, and pink together. It's a playful room and a room that she can grow in. Great job!
I love this room! The Pez collection is fabulous too!

That is a giant little people dog on the dresser. It's a puzzle. All the pieces come apart and fit back together.
Fabulous room! Uncluttered yet stimulating. Love the giraffe over the bed. The window treatments are the finishing touch to a room that will grow with your child! Love it!
I want this room for me!! Sooooo cute!
Gorgeous!!!
Such a fun room! What kid wouldn't LOVE this room?!
I Love the giraffe on the wall? Where could one find that?
I don't usually like pink even though it is supposed to be calming, but this is so soft. I think they are usually too bright on walls for my taste. LOVE the Little People dog & the giraffe (where is that from). Great job. Colorful without being over designed. Such an easy feel.
I painted the giraffe on a small portion of a big canvas painter's drop cloth. I lightly drew a pen outline of a giraffe and filled in and changed the design as I started painting spots. I'm no artist, but it came together quickly.
I wanted something large to hang over the bed, but was a little worried about a heavy stretched canvas or framed photograph right over her head. I kind of like the uninished look of fabric hanging. I put grommits in the top corners that fit into hooks on the wall.
