We're still not over the gray trend and we honestly don't see ourselves abandoning ship for quite some time. The weather for pretty much the entire country has been really bleak this week and frankly, all we see is gray. We decided that we might as well make lemonade out of lemons and look at gray done right. The forecast is now gray with a chance of color.
Whether the gray is found on the walls, the floor or the bedding — it's usually done right. We're pretty in love with the gray wallpaper in Sig Bergamin's apartment and how it's put in its place by the random hints of color throughout the apartment.
We also really love the idea of the wall color and furniture color matching and adding colorful accents to break the space up. Accessories are the easiest way to bring color into a room and by limiting the colors to just a few — you're seriously adding to the drama of the room!

Great post title and concept. There is a lot of grey and I love the idea of warming it up with a color like red. It's interesting to see the grey working with the browns and the soft black and white photos in the Elle Decor image.
I've been loving gray recently, but the only grey wall in my house is one I painted birch trees on. Everything else just has gray accents, like my guest room.
not a huge fan of gray walls in a cold climate but red and gray look great together.
Make lemons out of lemonade? Now thát's a make-over I'd love to witness!
I'm looking for colored throw pillows to go on my grey couch in living room with grey walls. Any suggestions for burnt orange and turquoise/teal options? Geometrics preferred over florals.
These are so beautiful. Grey is one of my favorite colors. We have a charcoal grey couch that fits perfectly with the lighter grey walls in our living room (courtesy of our last tenants).
@Sooso hahah, just trying to make up my own sayings. It has been fixed :)
Painted my bedroom walls a dark grey shade a year ago and have already tired of it, since my walls are textured it looks like a concrete prison. I will say though, the pops of color in the room (yellow and aqua) look great against the wall.

I just purchased the 23 x 11 paint palette pillow for my gray sofa and I love it! It picks up my my green and orange accent walls beautifully!
Sorrry ffor all* thhe typoos above& - I acccidenttallly hitt ssubmmit insteadd of pprevieww.
The green chair in picture four is to die for. I have always wanted to paint an entire house in gray and black, like gradiants through rooms in subtly darkening shades. It's daunting to make sure it isn't oppressive however.
I love this post, I'm obsessed with gray especially since I feel like it's the only color that is so versatile and can convey so many different moods.
My favorite idea is the picture with the bright yellow accents. I'm doing a similar treatment in my living room (check it out here) but I never even considered mixing in some green accents!
I don't think I'll ever be able to get on the gray wagon, but these are some beautiful photos!
Yes, gray's not so bad in a room that's brightly lit as in these photos.
I am so excited to see this post. Just painted our bedroom a "greige" and looking for some inspiration for the rest of the room.
Lovely photos!
I just painted my living room gray this weekend. It is anything but boring. There is lots of color and texture. And lots of natural light. Before it was a drab default apartment yellowy white. It looks bigger, brighter and cleaner now. Yay gray!!!
Grey can't be a trend or not. It's the ultimate neutral, yet very elegant, classic and calm. Grey connects all colors together, makes them stand out and just adds harmony to any color scheme - interior and fashion. I grew up in the home with grey kitchen-and it was back in the very beginning of 80's. My mother had a good taste for many things :)
That said, dark grey tones that are close to black, can create a lot of drama and intensity.
@adh, I'm intrigued by doing something similar with these: http://buildyourblock.bigcartel.com/
I think grey is here to stay. It's beautiful, can be casual, can be formal, can be a focal point or a back drop color. And I love that gray grasscloth wallpaper too!
I love grey/greige. Haven't done it in my own place yet, but will. I think it's great for a living room or bedroom. Or bathroom. Alright, any room.
Anyone know where the curtains in the first image are from? I want them. A lot.
Ah - found the source of the curtains in the Elle article. They're apparently a Georges Le Manach cotton. Probably WAY out of my price range, but very beautiful.
Love it
I first used gray in 1979 -- and came back to using it again this past year in very different apartments. I painted my kitchen BM Steel Wool and the main room BM Iced cube Silver (studio apartment) -- love the look of each and love how I can play with light and accent colors -- so many things look good with these colors! Gray paints have undertones that change with the lights and colors you surround them with so they are not boring -- of course, choose wisely so you do not end up with a concrete prison look (as one reader suggests). I was glad to take the paint color advice from other AT readers for the main room and chose the kitchen color from further up the scale of the same paint chip sample.
