We've been going back and forth at our house as to what we'll hand out for Halloween. Candy is the norm and we really don't want to be the pencil or toothbrush house, but we'd like to do something handmade for the kids in our hood and still keep it simple. Enter... crayons. Jill over at the aptly named Homemade by Jill (don't forget to read her Big Blog Family interview here) mixed up these adorable color wheel race car crayons for a birthday. Now, we don't have any birthday parties to throw in the near future, but we could use this idea for trick-or-treaters just the same. With an artist in the family, there might even be a coloring book in their future too.
Jill was able to make 46 race cars from a 120 color box of Crayola's that she was able to pick up on the cheap with those ever abundant Michael's coupons. If race cars aren't your thing, there's many molds out there, holiday specific and not, that should be a perfect fit for your activity!
Even if you only hand out one crayon per child, if they're a cool shape they'll still have it once the candy is long gone! Check out the full tutorial over at Homemade by Jill.
