Forget Snail Mail. Meet Pigeon Post.

I have always been fascinated by homing pigeons. Long before smart phones and Wi-Fi, carrier pigeons were used to transmit crucial messages. One famous bird, Cher Ami, even became a decorated U.S. Army war hero in World War I. She helped save an entire battalion! That's why I flipped when I saw this oh-so-clever postal pigeon.

Each life-size plastic pigeon kit from 16 Sparrows comes with three mailing pouches for correspondence, and can be dropped at your local post office as is. That's right. No need to wrap up this adorable avian package in boring brown paper and tape.

While these birds will never be war heroes, they'll definitely save you on a bad day. Who wouldn't cheer up at the sight of the original "air" mail? But take note, friends: If you ship one to me, it'll never come back to you, even if I have to clip its wings. It's just too cute to send off into the world.
