Like so many of you, the very first thing I do when I walk in my apartment is take off my shoes... but then what? My floors are cold, my feet are tired, but I'd still like to look cute. Here are my favorite options for keeping feet warm, comfortable, and cute..
- Tieks has created "The Ballet Flat, Reinvented" in crazy and classic colors. The rubber sole is sturdy enough to wear outside, but the cushioned footbed and split sole look so very comfortable.
- Go back to the source with Repetto's Demi-Pointe Ballet Slippers. Note, I'm not talking about Repetto's Ballet Flats, which can run at least $300. Instead, try the actual ballet slippers, available at your local dance shop for around $45. They're available in white or pink, but I recommend going for the bad-ballerina look with a black pair.
- Minnetonka's Kilty Moccasin (available in either softsole or a rubber-nubbed driving style) would look so fetching with jeans, a plaid flannel shirt, and your hair in a braid.
- The Minnetonkas are classic, but the Moccasin Slippers from Toast are the prettiest ones I've ever seen. So refined!
- Tretorn's Smögensson Canvas are a modern take on the boat shoe, and they look so comfortable (I have a pair of Tretorn wedges that are amazing). Can't you just imagine yourself saying, "Excuse me while I slip on my Smögenssons.."?
- I wore classic black TOMS at home everyday for a year until they finally died. They let me pad around the house silently, like a ballerina ninja.
- Land's End Gatas are similar to the TOMS, with a bit of nautical flair. Nice stripes!
- My parents gave me the Self Esteem Fleece Fabric Flats for Christmas 2010, and I love them. They look like elegant ballet flats, but the fleece interior is so cozy.
What do you wear on your feet at home? Socks, slippers, nothing at all? Or are you still searching for the perfect pair that makes you feel comfortable but still stylish?

I have also had the Self Esteem Fleece Fabric Flats (#8) since Christmas '10 and LOVE them! They are my total everyday shoe. The fleece interior gets stomped down after lots of wear, but the outside still looks as nice as they did on day one. I throw them in the wash about every 6 months though. I know they used to make these with a herringbone pattern but they appear to have been discontinued. Bummer!
My husband and I wear L.L. Bean shearling slippers... they're a little expensive but it's hard to find real shearling slippers that aren't. They're so warm and feel like standing on marshmallows.
I care nothing for style, but I do want toasty. I normally wear trouser socks with my shoes for work, so when I kick off the shoes, I do have on socks. Then I put on my cheap discount store moccasins in colder weather, just the socks when it's hot. Works for me!
Anything Haflinger....
To me people wearing TOMS look like escapees from a mental hospital :)
Yeah, there really isn't a good place to wear TOMS. Not sure how they wound up on a list meant for cute shoes.
Those Self Esteem flats are exactly what I've been looking for, but when I went to buy them DSW only has them in huge sizes (11+), and they don't appear to be available anywhere else. Grr. Back to the drawing board...
Love the Tieks, but OUCH! I went to their website to purchase a pair and they're a bit pricy for a kick around shoe in my opinion!
ABC (Anything But Crocs!)
minnetonka is one of my favorite brands. i have 3 mocs and a pair of fringe boots. they are SO COMFORTABLE and reasonably priced as well. i definitely recommend them!!!
Meh. I'm at home; the one place it's not necessary to keep up appearances. Nothing will make me trade out my Canterbury sheepskin slippers in the winter.
I beat this post to the Minnes. :)
I don't wear shoes at home - heck, I don't even wear socks. But you can pry my red TOMS from my cold, dead, insane, charitable hands.
I got a pair of down slippers (pardon me, Foot Duvets) from Restoration Hardware. They look ridiculous, but they're so warm and cozy. Plus they were on sale for $12!

I usually just wear socks around the house.
But when I do wear shoes, I wear these:

They're Finnish "old people shoes", that are so comfy it's sick. And I've heard now hipsters wear them – ironically, of course :)
I remember my mother buying the elastic ballet slippers like the first picture. Our neigborhood Rexall Drugs use to sell them in white, beigh, black and gold they came in their own pouch I think they cost 6.00. You could buy Dr. Scholls as well.
I have these so cute and comfy- http://www.plumo.com/products/Ruby-bow-knitted-slippers.html
I have worn Anywears rubber clogs for years. They have a molded footbed/insole thingy, so you get amazing shock absorption and springiness, but with arch support. They are like nurse shoes, all of which would probably be good too. Klogs are good. I don't work for any of these companies, btw.
Only downside is, as rubber shoes, they are warm, warm warm, but that's nice in winter.
They are not cute though. We call them my "clown shoes."
Summergal- kohls has those elastic ballet flats in lots of colors-

also these are similar to the self esteem ones

I'm still wearing my original Uggs.
espadrilles or moroccan slippers!
I hate wearing shoes and socks in general. I wear sandals as often as possible even in winter.
So, my feet are clad in basic flip flops as soon as I get in the house. Sometimes..if my heels get dry from winter air; I wear socks with the toes cut off so just my arch and heel are covered. I know, weird!
As soon as I get home, I am barefoot. But I wear Five Fingers 80% of the time I leave the house, so there's that. I hatehatehate having my toes scrunched together and I have boat feet (11 WW), so shoes and I have a problematic relationship.
Flip-flops. Cheap, available everywhere in a million styles.
Where are the jeans from?! I hate TOMS as well.
I have a pair of wool felt slippers that I had knit up. They are super cozy and warm and I put leather soles on them to make them not so slippery. I
j.crew ollllldddd black flipflops...in cold weather..with socks...the toe thing goes right in between with socks very nicely..an asian flair if the socks are athletic socks..white..: )
@home it's flip flops/jandals/thongs
problem with wide-front feet in Australia is, shoes here are not like the USA where I came back with 30 pairs of "9.5 wide"... my Mum thought I was nuts but 20 years later it's hard to find 9.5 in Australia. Imagine wearing just size 9 or just size 10? frustrating!
these are pretty cute and look comfortable (plus a great price!) from Target... http://www.target.com/p/Womens-Mossimo-Supply-Co-Leona-Canvas-Espadrille-Red/-/A-13747404?ref=tgt_adv_xasd0001&AFID=Performics_ShopStyle.com&LNM=Primary
I wear 'Sole Rebels' flats (fair trade, handmade in Ethiopia!) - seriously comfy, great price, and available from Amazon.... Order a size up....
I just discovered Smartwool slippers, they have some seriously cute pairs, but I probably won't want to spend the money on them.
