Have you ever fallen in love with a tree skirt? They're just there to cover the stand or base you might be using, but who said it had to be a skirt? Try this basket on for size instead and keep a tidy and most beautiful tree this holiday season!
You can find this bottomless basket over at Terrain for $48, and while that's not outrageous by any means, we're willing to bet you might have a basket or two that could get the job done.
This wicker tree "skirt" is essentially a basket without a bottom so it can rest flat on the floor. Dig for a basket of according size and start cutting! I suggest using a Dremel tool or small rotary hand saw to get the job done, although I'm sure you'll find a way even if those two things don't happen to be in your tool chest.
You could hit up the thrift stores for baskets or possibly adapt this jute basket we featured a few months ago for this purpose. The red and brown of the jute would look great and a cooler or even cardboard box could be used instead of wicker.
The creative juices are flowing now that I'm not thinking about actual skirts. What would you use to get the job done? Let us know in the comments below!

I'm moving to a new apartment mid-December, which doesn't leave much time for trees, and decided to get a small potted pine rather than a traditional Christmas tree. This basket looks lovely as a tree skirt, I hope it looks equally lovely as a planter. Thanks for the great idea!
Love the basket idea. It's such a clean look. I never liked tree skirts as they get bunched up and slide around so easily - with cats around anyway.
