Quite often in homes with little to no closet space you'll find some of the best storage inspiration. This room in San Francisco was transformed using only reclaimed objects and I'm madly in love with the idea of contained milk crate storage!
Using milk crates for storage is nothing new, in fact we're willing to bet at least 75% of you have used them to store things in the past. They always look a little college-y, but the idea of keeping them side-by-side and contained with additional wood is rather attractive.
We think it would make for great shoe storage, keep sports equipment and toys contained in the garage or hold books and other assorted displays depending on what you need to store or showcase. The plywood makes it look more like a chicken coop
It looks mighty low-end.
I'm sorry. But as a designer, that just made my eyes bleed. Yes kiddies, there is such a thing as good design and bad design and this is a good example of bad design. Stay classy AT!
I'm not feeling it. Is there not a more attractive way to set up storage cubbies? What about that untreated plywood. Sorry.
It's cool if someone likes the aesthetic of the milk crates and wants to use all reclaimed materials- but why is the space above the milk crates walled off? Why waste that storage potential if you're trying to make something utilitarian?
"Good" design is in the eye of the beholder. I think this is an interesting use and reuse of materials. Speaking as someone who currently has five milk crates stacked in his bedroom due to a re-design of my daughter's soon to be shared bedroom, it was pretty cool to see someone use similar materials in an unconventional and in my opinion, pretty kick ass DIY way. BTW the STOP/WALK light as seen behind the link is equally awesome.
Looks pretty farmey to me. Is farmey even a word? See, I'm so flumuxed by the whole pictured I can't even spell properly...
WOW!
This would look great next to my planters made out of used car tires!
Is this a "before" photo?
Although it may not be everyone's style, I think this is a great way to add storage and possibly reuse found material. I can imagine it with rustic wood and old metal milk crates.
