Making a fort from your kitchen table is all in a days work for most families. But what a blanket tossed over your surfaces doesn't allow for is windows! We saw this photograph and immediately thought, "Why didn't we think of that?!" This way for details...
The original photo we found on Flickr tells us this fabulous idea came from Colorique, but we couldn't locate this specific product on their website. Although that makes us a little sad, we're sure many of you are just like us and started dreaming up a diy version as soon as you saw it!
We love that it allows the table to still be used without too much fear of a buffet of food spilling off one side. Plus each panel moves independently of each other so there isn't additional strain across the fabric. It would make a fabulous birthday or Christmas present for a loved one (having access to measure their table on the sly would help) and looks like the coziest place on earth to read a good book!

Okay, I'd love to try making something like this for when my baby is a little older, but as a non-sewer, I have no clue how one would construct the windows. Would you have to insert wire or something to have them hold the shape?
This Etsy seller makes something similar. And she takes custom orders...

to Swordspoint: I have made a puppet theater that hangs in a doorway, and the way the "window" was constructed, it has two tubes of fabric sewn on the backside just above and below the window and narrow dowels inserted to help keep the window shape. But I think if you had the cross panes like these windows, you might need that support?
I had been thinking of making something like this, but covering the top of the table...basically like a tablecloth. But now I see this idea might be better because you could make it fit a bigger or smaller table by tightening or loosening the strings.
