Digital photo frames are on the weaker side on the spectrum of tech products, just because no one seems to have quite cracked the dilemma of making a really, really good one. Granted there is a handful out there that are good, but I haven't discovered any that are great yet. As an owner of a Sony S-Frame, I can say that I've been looking forward to the next best thing in digital frames for a while now and was pleasantly surprised when FRAMED* was announced, created by Tha Ltd and Yugo Nakamura.
Essentially a digital picture frame, FRAMED* works to display works of art, motion graphics and interactive illustrations. Already, I'm more sold on the idea of displaying digital art versus just streaming a bunch of personal photos (nothing that a computer screensaver can't do).
The most interesting bit about FRAMED* is the fact that it is powered by an iPhone app paired with a 40 inch Samsung LED display. You use the app to control what appears on the display. Works of art are available from the Framed* store where artists can continually upload new work.
FRAMED* is not currently widely available, but you can stay updated by following the Twitter or Facebook channels. I'm a huge advocate of art as a part of everyday life and am excited to see if more developments like FRAMED* push the genre of digital photo frames into a sexier category.
