In light of Susan Seid's new book about textile designer Vera Neumann (1907-1993), we're revisiting the silk-scarf-as-wall-art idea. Behold the pleasing possibilities.
The splashy graphics and bold color that add finish to your frock can also dress up any wall. Instead of storing these lovely pieces for occasional wear, why not frame a series in complementing colors and patterns? Ebay is lousy with vintage options, in the sunny style of Vera and beyond.

This is a great idea. Vintage scarves are easy to find and generally inexpensive. The Vera ones in particular tend to be very graphic and colorful, which makes them perfect as wall art.
Gorgeous idea!!!
Doh! I just sold a great one of a breakfast picnic scene for cheap on eBay - if I'd known a book was coming out I would have waited a bit.
Does anyone have any idea of how to actually go about framing a scarf so it doesn't wiggle all around (being that they are slinky). How would you adhere this to the frame?
Sarongs also may be used this way.
@lillielechic, you could pin or glue them to a stretched canvas (I'd do that rather than just stretch them LIKE a canvas for the extra support.) Or you could press them onto some self-adhesive fomecore board. Or you could have professional framers do it in their own mysterious ways...
Yeah, I was kind of hoping this post would have advice on the actual *process* of framing a scarf.
I think we all know that there are millions of beautiful, colorful, wonderful scarves out there for cheap just waiting to be framed. :)
Did somebody else also see this on Nate Berkus's new TV show, too?
Thanks SherryBinNH! I think I'll give it a go and see which method works best.
