France Fights Appliances That Are Built to Break

France's government has issued a decree to battle companies using planned obsolescence. The measure requires manufacturers to inform consumers how long they can expect their TV, cell phone or other appliance to last, before they buy it. Failing to do so results in fines up to €15,000.
