Petre Island, the 11-acre island in the middle of Lake Mahopac complete with a house by Frank Lloyd Wright, is on the market for $20 million. There's also a cottage and a dock, and, if you're into extravagant Valentine's Day gestures, the island resembles a heart from above.
In other news, you can trampoline across the Russian forest, and Austin may get a pedestrian wire system overhead. See the headlines after the jump.

This is in my hometown! (on the richer parts, of course). I remember when they were building that. It was INCREDIBLE to watch. I had no idea what they were doing at first. I feel so lucky to have something as special as this added to my town.
You need to read the story more carefully -- Wright did not design the house, only preliminary concepts which were not acted upon until decades after his death. BIG difference. The house lacks many of the subtleties of a Wright house.
I have no qualifications to asses the authenticity, or lack thereof, of this house, but it certainly doesn't look like any Frank Lloyd Wright house I've ever seen. Biomorphic shapes? A jumble of uncut rock? Hard to imagine that these were part of Wright's original concept.
very interesting links - thanks for posting!
Frank Lloyd Wright or not, it is simply an amazing home on an amazing piece of land. Pictures don't do this home justice. It has an amazing flow that captures the natural landscape of the area. I can completely see how the rocks indoors seem out of place in the pictures, but those jagged rocks can be seen all around the lake and are very distinctly a part of the natural area. The home owner has even gone on record to say that he has attempted to stick true to what Wright put on paper to begin with. He didn't design it, he just built it. I too wish Wright could be a part of the construction, and am sure it would have come out differently to some degree. I don't think that means it shouldn't have been built at all though. The owner is a fan and wanted to continue the Wright legacy in order to honor him.
