- What I Love About My Small Home:
- The sleek modern architecture, the warm, light-filled space, and the view of the red brick warehouse across the street. And I love my home's location on a quiet street in DC’s ultra-walkable, vibrant U Street neighborhood.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- Creating the illusion of space and not letting the décor compete with the building’s beautiful structure and materials. I’ve tried to keep it simple with a mix of relatively minimalist contemporary and mid-century furniture. Fighting clutter is a daily battle, of course, though I am lucky to have ample storage space, including a walk-in closet and a ton of kitchen cabinets.

Wow. Stylish and sleek, it's looks pretty expensive, though.
Love everything about this place! So relaxing and cozy.
Your place is gorgeous! The architecture is beautiful, & your decor compliments the space perfectly. I would love to see a full house tour. Also, as a DC dweller myself, this makes me want to pack my bags & move to a posh apartment on U Street.
Love the view, the floors and the sliding glass doors!
Love the bedding. Source?
Very fancy. Love the Calder in the kitchen.
Wow, those sliding glass doors into the bedroom are beautiful. (I bet you go through lots of glass cleaner in your apartment!)
Gorgeous apartment, clean, uncluttered, almost minimalist, and yet warm and welcoming. Looking at this made me feel good. Great decor - and I would also love to know the source of the bedding.
Thanks for your nice comments! The bedding is from Bed Bath & Beyond. As for the furniture, almost everything you see in the pictures I bought at local thrift or antique stores, or IKEA.
The lighting really creates a soothing mood in your home. The stargazer lilies are also beautifully arranged throughout your space. Nice artwork in the kitchen. That looks like Kandinsky..I think.
I Love the space, the layout, the color scheme, all that. I want your place for myself.
I am a fan of the stacked upper cabinets in the kitchen. This is a perfect solution for those of who have extra serving pieces for entertaining.
Where is the couch from?
Love it, esp. the tiles and the sliding door! I'd love to see pix when it's not overcast.... I remember U St when it wasn't so vibrant!
I am amazed at how well such a small space works, and it's gorgeous! Well done!
Gorgeous...love the sliding glass bedroom doors. I have always wanted those...
I also live in the DC area and am curious what thrift and antique shops you go to? Thanks!
The low, nofuss sofa greatly amplified the sense of space in the living room. Good choice. The floor plan is good to start with.
Where is your couch from? LOVE!
Great space! Beautiful decor. I love how it's sectioned but still has an "open" feel.
RKELLER08: My favorite antique/thrift stores are Millennium Decorative Arts (Millenniumdecorativearts.com) on U Street; Hunted House on 14th St (www.huntedhousedc.com), and Miss Pixies on 14th St (www.misspixies.com). (www.galleryplanb.com)
CRISTINA7 and SARIANDTHECITY: The couch is 'Alphaville Design' from ExclusivelyHome.com. I absolutely would not recommend it though. The reason it's so low is that it's supposed to be installed on a base, which didn't fit because of a manufacturing error. In addition, the dimensions weren't as advertised (it's way bigger). Major headache. Will replace it as soon as I can afford to get something from Room and Board.
The lighting is inspriational to me. Thank you for posting this excellent and warm home.
sleek and modern - very striking and a favorite for sure!
i want a complete tour! we couldn`t see the dining!
what i love the most is the soft lightening !! good job! i also thought it looks expensive, but may be is just good taste to buy beautiful things!
Finally something cool from DC :)
Stunningly gorgeous. My favorite so far. I am in love with your sofa. Good luck!
Do you mind if I ask what building this is in DC? I'm on the apartment hunt myself and the space looks wonderful. Thanks!
LIZLEAVY: Hi. It's the Lacey building, by Division1 Architects (a condo building).
This studio is gorgeous! I love what you have done with this space. It is amazing!!
Beautiful. You had something very nice to start with and did a great job striking the perfect balance so that it is neither stark nor cluttered.
Looove! Amazed that that couch, which works so perfectly in that space, was a result of manufacturer error. I actually like how low it - and the coffee table - is.
Oh, this is such a lovely place! I love the gorgeous lighting and your impeccable taste... I'd like to have cocktails here ;)
Gorgeous.
This is gorgeous! What a stylish looking space
the living room is nice. But the infinity mirrors spoilt it for me...
Wow - subtle elegance. Timeless.
Liebi Grüess us Züri ;-)
So pretty, looks museum like...love those windows!
I want to like this one twice!
Super cute! Where in DC?
Modern and spare (at least the main living space) but still looks really comfortable.
I really like this - I would love to live here. But you seem to have lucked out - I'm imagining these furnishings in an apartment that looks like mine, and I don't think that would win this contest.
it's sleek, but comfortble...i've seen way too many places that have that sleek look but come across as sterile. this apartment is nicely done! bravo!
Maravilloso!
What a fine editor of space you are! Very sophisticated style, but at the same time, also warm. The only thing I didn't get was the picture frames leaning by the bed. It felt a little, 'not quite moved in yet.' But I was fine with the effect in the bathroom, because it wasn't on the floor.
looks like a hotel
This isn't an apartment it's a super cool hotel!
Vacation anyone?!
