Talk about a bummer. I came home Monday evening from work with eager hopes about my budding potted heirloom tomato doorstep garden. The plants have been sprouting both small yellow flowers, with the exciting addition of two small tomato fruits. Everything had been going well, until this evening when I spied a small hornworm caterpillar inching down the plant. I got there just in time to hear it burp, as it departed from a visible hole from my once promising tomatoes.
But this small setback is not going to stop us from our long term goal of planning and planting a garden out front. We're using this free Online Garden Planner to get a general sense of what we'd like to do with the communal front garden. The interface is a bit budget and the graphics are spartan; don't expect to plan out the Huntington Gardens with this utility. But it's a lot of fun to start visualizing our future garden...sans gluttonous caterpillars.
