Are you in a giving mood? Looking to simplify your life and clean out those closets cramped with "stuff"? How about "freecycling"? What is "freecycling", you ask? Think of it as recycling through the gift of giving. Freecycle.org is a non-profit organization started in May 2003 to promote waste reduction to ease strain on landfills. The site provides a free forum to offer unwanted items, including appliances, building supplies, electronics, furniture and home and garden products, all ready to recycle for use.
With nearly 3.5 million Freecycle members, you've got a good chance to get as good as you give. But for us, this just seems like a great way to get rid of that "stuff" in the closet you think you might need later...but really don't.

My best friend got a clean Serta mattress and boxspring queen set of Freecycle just a few weeks ago :O
I have had some successes in both giving/taking off Freecycle over the years but the flakes really ruin it by:
- scheduling pick ups and never showing up
- not bothering to read times you've posted that you're available for their pick-up and suggesting anything but (and calling you 3x a day about it)
- taking 2 weeks to nail down a time to pick-up when you could've given it to any of the other people who emailed about it a week earlier!
That said, I've met some lovely people who did show up on the scheduled day and were very nice! But unfortunately flakes are involved more often than not. I've given away peg board, books, dress form, furniture, etc and gotten a set of dishes.
Is it b/c of that whole devaluing the free thing, I wonder?
Here on our Army post, we have a very simple Freecycle program. Put it out by the curb. People (me included) drive around our villages (Army for neighborhoods) and scope out what's been set out. I've gotten an all wood nightstand that I sanded and repainted for my craftnook. I've given away a rolling file system that I couldn't get put together. Very easy and no worrying about flakes not showing up.
