All you really need to achieve this vintage feel is one larger piece of furniture or a few smaller accessories- think a great pendant lamp or some wire baskets. But just beware, this style demands a little bit of iron and steel, so steer clear of sharp edges as we tried to here.
• Antique Iron Bed from Atelier Charivari
• Vintage Schoolhouse Table and Chairs from Restoration Hardware Baby & Child
• Tolix Kids Line available at Antiquaire
• This Industrial Stool from Wisteria can be used as a side table next to a nursing chair or later on along with an art table.
• Square Canvas Carry Basket from Steele Canvas would work well for storing toys or clothes.

That play room/study room isn't bad but the bedroom just makes me sad.
Industrial indeed. That looks like a bed a child factory worker would have to climb out of at 5 in the morning. I like minimal, but that bedroom is gloomy, cold, and comfortless. I really like the table and chairs in the playroom, though.
I generally love industrial looks but for kids' rooms, it just makes them look sort of sad and Tim Burton-ish....
Agreed - the sad little garland almost seems like a joke in that first room.
I love grey and industrial furniture, but it has to balanced by some warmth or it feels like a prison. Who would want their child living in a room without light and color?
If the walls were white and the bed had colorful bedding the first room would be great. I LOVE the bed but as it stands now it's too gloomy.
I'm seeing that sad, sad attic room with the mouse in A Little Princess.
that first pic is really grim.
Too gloomy and institutional...like looking at Lord Voldemort's (Tom Riddle's) childhood bed. And metal seating is so cold on the tush!
A way to prepare them for the cold, hard and harsh world?
I agree with the above comments - there must be a balance between this and some color and comfort. This isn't just kid unfriendly, it seems adult unfriendly too.
I love French industrial, and my daughter's room is inspired by this style. However, her walls are a pale jadeite green, and her bedding and accessories add pink, cream, and tan tones to add warmth.
just fyi everyone- the first pic is not someone's room, but primarily a photo of the bed from the site that sells it.
its truly tim burton inspired and i love it! i rarely know parents to like tim burtons films but i love them personaly and wont allow my kids to watch them till they are a bit older. the bed is beautiful. if the wall were a bright teal or some pop of color i think the general feeling would be better overall.
barf.
Ouch! I love everything grey but there is a very fine line between grey and grim. Catalog concept photo or not, it's supposed to make you WANT it and I'd rather not see my child in a turn of the century orphanage scene. I love the spartan quality of industrial furniture and every shade of grey known to man, but... yikes. Yeah, it's your house and you have to see it everyday but if you're dropping major bucks why not give them what they want (to a degree, anyway)? I don't imagine any kids going bananas over Tiny Tim's bedroom set.
I have two of the school house chairs listed above. Only I didn't get mine from Restoration Hardware. There is a fantastic little store in Chicago called Praha and they have an awesome mix of new and vintage stuff. I think I got the pair of chairs for less than $50 a couple of years ago! And, upon further investigation, those same chairs (only REAL vintage) are all over ebay. They were made by American Seating Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan. And it looks like there are great deals on them still!
oh, and the first picture is DEPRESSING.
@RECYCLEG - Voldemort's childhood bedroom didn't look that depressing lol.
Thank God it's not a real child's room! I feel a bit better lol
