As with our favorite television characters' relationships, the tension created by this dynamic color duo can swing from subtle to bold, depending on mood. It's a matter of the balance between the two colors, as well as the hues chosen for each.
Looking for cool sophistication? Try a light taupe-y or lavender gray and a hint of rust. Want to create a more seductive mood? Go for a dark gray with a touch of mink or olive in it, and add a bit of deep pumpkin. Feel like something fresher? Try dove gray and tangerine. The combinations are endless! It's all a matter of determining the mood you want to create and striking the balance that works best for you.
How do you feel about this combustible color combo? Are you as smitten with it as I am?

Love it!!!
I wouldn't do any of my rooms this way but they are ALL really, really pretty.
I'd go for orange and blue. :o)
Adding...Don and Betty Draper room from Mad Men, pre-divorce. Bluish slate-gray silk wallpaper, coral upholstery, corniced draperies. Gorgeous.
These are great examples! I do, though, agree that it's a "combustible combo!" I feel like I' might get tired of most of these situations before long.
However, I do love #13, the attic bedroom with the really light gray walls and somewhat muted orange bedspread. VERY attractive, IMO! So thanks very much for sharing that!
Since I saw this gray and orange-red photo just earlier today, I think I'll post a link even though it's more red than orange... really gorgeous natural example of a similar combo, and as I looked at it, I was wondering how it might translate into decor! http://i802.photobucket.com/albums/yy309/red_bridge/Paintandcolors-gorgeousredagainstlightgray.jpg
I love orange and gray (I cannot stand yellow and gray) - especially if the orange is very reddish orange.
I have a similar chandelier as seen in Pic. 5 hanging outside from a tree - spray painted this vivid orange with a hint of red. The inspiration came from AT, of course. :-)
i really like these. i usually stick to one color range, but i could definitely see myself bringing these colors together in my apartment soon.
I love orange and grey together. This post shows how all the various combinations of differing shades of these colours still look so good. Especially love the last shot with the dark moody charcoal and rich burnished orange. Looking at all the firewood I can just imagine the flames flickering in the fireplace would set this room off so well. Gorgeous.
Not feeling the love.
Love orange and grey together, but these images are showing me how tricky it can be to carry this off in a room.
My bedroom is orange and grey with white furniture and I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what color to paint the walls. #5 provided my answer and I am going to go with lilac walls. My quilt is multi-colored with lilac as a minor color yet I've never thought of using that color on the walls. Great!!
When done right, orange and gray can be a really fantastic color combination. My favorite is the one in the urban apartment, keeps it from looking too Mad Men-esque.
