While I saw plenty of single pieces of furniture done up in the greens of the moment at Salone (which we first noted when covering Maison) there was another, complete palette of colors that was shown again and again throughout the fair. And while it's not a new mix of hues, it is definitely one that is making a resurgence in terms of a full room palette. It is a Scandinavian-inspired mix (with some influence from Japan, too, I'd say)…

… comprised of White, Warm Gray, Chalky Light Blue, Chalky Acidic Yellow, Soft Cocoa and Blond Wood tones. it sometimes expands to include a Dark Charcoal or Black.

This welcoming, warm, calm and quiet color story was prevalent throughout the halls and once I picked up on it, I saw it over and over again. I know that this is a palette that is NOT new - it's one that has long been associated with Scandinavian interiors, but clearly 2011 is the year it moved (or moved back) to center stage, at least here in Italy.

I love this mix — it evokes a homey and clean feeling but is simultaneously design-centric due to its strong roots in beautiful rooms from the past.
