Ok, is there anything better than perfectly framed before and after photos? You know, the ones where the after photo really matches the angle of the before photo? We ran across a whole slew of them, depicting a very up to date living room color change. Talk about a fresh start for the new year!
Pam of Cherish Toronto decided to go for a full transformation on January 4th and already fully completed the job over the weekend. New handmade pillow covers were the first step and she pulled colors from the floral print to help determine the paint colors for the wall and coffee table base.

anyone know where that mirror comes from?
I really love that blue, but the pink is nice too. Especially since they painted the coffee table base to match.
What a great example of how drastically a paint color can change a room. I think I may have liked the blue better, but kudos to Pam for switching it up. It's a beautiful room!
Mirror is from Target
I want that lamp and the end table. They're fantastic pieces.
Also, the colour change is really lovely.
I agree, I really like the blue, but the pink is so warm and lovely, I love it too.
isn't that Honeysuckle?
Love it!
The blue looks so much cleaner, crisper, like the room is airy and big, but the pink doesn't look bad, it gives the space a warm touch.
Go back to the blue! x
I love the pink! The blue looks dull.
I love the blue, but I can see that the pink would be very cozy in the evenings. It looks like the coffee table base was also painted to match. Great example of how a bit of paint and some different throw cushion covers can really transform a space!
first photo is styled better
I want that lamp!
Pink??? dang, i thought it was orangey color. time to visit the eye doctor...
Love both, but am more drawn to the pink.
I don't know how I feel about colors that make you want to turn the light on in the middle of the day. It feels kind of wrong somehow. That said, the salmon color (or so it appears to me) is still very nice.
the blue looks kind of cold when you compare it to that comfy red-ish tone
I definitely prefer the blue. It feels a lot more polished and put-together to me.
However, it's interesting to see how changing the color of the wall and a few accents (pillows) creates an entirely different feel.
The "pink" is too salmon for me, and really darkens the space. I'd loved to see a softer, lighter shade. Just my take, it's a great space. Well done, either way.
they are both really lovely colors. for me the pink gets the prize because it works better with the color of the couch. everything else is neutral and swings both ways, and the couch and blue walls aren't bad--but the couch and pink walls are wonderful. great before and after
I agree that the blue was nice enough, but rather lifeless...
...the pink definitely livens up the space, makes it warmer & more energetic and has much more personality - I especially like the way the color was repeated in the cocktail table base and pillow fabrics.
Great redo!
Thanks for all of the comments, both for and against the colour change. To be honest I like both colour combos, but it was more about me needing a colour change. Also of note is that the Blue photos were taken on a sunny day and the Pink on a rainy day. That totally affects the mood captured in the photos.
Some people just have to follow the trends. Yes, that is the new "in" color Honeysuckle. I guess it depends on what kind of mood you want. The blue is cool and serene. The pink is warm and vibrant. Personally, I hate pink and couldn't live with it.
I prefer the "before." Next time you need a color change, you should consider going back to it.
Nice to see some bold color around here again :) I was starting to think AT had turned it's back on non-neutral wall colors. This room has serious pizzaz. Love the pink.
Also, guys, the pics were not taken at the same time. It could also look darker because the lighting that day was different.
i prefer the blue too. think the furniture pops better off the blue. but everyone's taste is different. overall you have a lovely home!
I like the little table the books and lamp are on.
I'm definitely more about the blue, but I love the ability (and follow-through) to shake things up. We recently did something similar because we moved to a new rental with different wall colors, and didn't feel like painting. It's very refreshing taking what you have and giving yourself new color options!
I'm not seeing pink. I would call that an orange to red, but I guess the color is in the eye of the beholder, and I like it!
On my screen it also looks more orange or salmon. I think it's great that she could change it up so quickly and cheaply. She showed us you don't have to start from scratch if you are in the mood for something different. And it really doesn't matter which color we prefer! Thanks.
Anyone else hearing the little Disney Sleeping Beauty fairies hissing at each other, "Make it pink!" "Make it blue!" ;)
I enjoyed the blue more.
I like the pink better, I think. It's hard to know exactly from the photographs alone. I was never really keen on the blue/brown pairing. It noticed it was a mainstay of the budget makeover shows for a few years.
Yay! Pink! The best color that doesn't really exist in the spectrum. It does look a bit more salmon, or even orange from the picture, but it's lovely either way.
Ummm...the color does read somewhat orange in some of the photos, but that could be the lighting? I have a BM fan deck, and Flamingo Pink is a really pretty shade of pink with an orange undertone.
Regardless, I think the new color looks A-mazing. Good job!!
I like the blue better. but that's my personal preference :)
The light is yellow; of course the walls read as orangey. >.>
It is very well done, though I personally also prefer the blue. (Partly because I preferred the patterns for the cushions in the before, which obviously matched the blue....)
If you check out Pam's blog, you'll be able to get a better sense of the colours. Spring Tulips is really in line with Pantone's Honeysuckle.
I don't believe in directly coordinating with a colour -- i.e., the approach of getting throw pillows that pick up the same (or very similar) wall colour. I think that a more subtle and complex palette makes a room more interesting.
For example, look at this room, and how the icy pink walls coordinate with white, peach, strong orange, terracotta, golden honeyed floors, sage, a touch of a dusty deep blue (the statuette), pale peach and acid green (the vase of poppies)...

In Pam's case, instead of picking up the same colour in the throw pillows, I would have gone with grass green and leaf green, perhaps a bit of electric yellow/green (not quite chartreuse), shades of pale and dark terracotta, and shades of cantaloupe and orange. In short, all the colours that she has in the throw pillows she sewed for her side/slipper chairs.
Pretty colours and a fun exercise!
I would usually say I love pink in touches and hate it otherwise. But there's a first time for everything; I love the pink walls here! The blue looked tasteful to the point of remote. The pink ... well, it glows. Or, more precisely, it makes ME glow.
I liked the blue better. I don't know if it's how it's showing up in the photos, but I was expecting to see a rich, royal, deep, elegant rose-colored pink, and instead it looks a bit Florida Coral circa 1986.
The blue was fantastic and soothing, and personally I felt looked better with the mirror and the suede couch. This other color is jarring.
Definitely liked the blue better. It looked better with all their other decor and furnishings. I am not one who is afraid of color either.
I have to agree that I like the blue better, too. I find the new "pink" colour looks quite dated.

I like both looks.
It certainly shows how you can totally change the feel of a room through paint and a few simple accessories. And for only CA$180 according to her blog- can't beat that for a mood picker-upper!
TEAM BLUE
well done
Change is always fun. And with paint, you can change monthly if you wish.
I like the "pink", mostly because it reminds me of Joan's apartment in Mad Men....similar shade of salmon.
As someone who can never pick a fave color (both ways were/are lovely), I love how THIS pink room makes me want to run through my flamenco/bellydance playlist and throw a hooka party!! Love it!! ;)~
Not a fan of pink, but these photos could be used for teaching to demonstrate how the feel and temperature of a room changes with only a paint color. Really interesting. (Now that the before and after comparison shots are done, I'd mess with accessories to liven up the newly-pink room. As someone mentioned, some yellow-greens and other "spring" colors would be a nice addition.
Whichever color I prefer is immaterial; the point is that a coat of paint can radically alter one's environment. And if one doesn't like, or gets bored with the results, just clean the roller and do it again!
+1 for blue here. I personally don't like pink, but the blue just looked much better.
i love that you can totally change the atmosphere of a home with a few coats of paint.
it feels like a totally different place with the warmth of the new color.
Is that pink? On my mac it looks orange. I do love the transformation, though.
I saw a little table for sale today just like that...but the wood wasn't as nice. It was lighter. This one looks much cuter.
what a nice way to change the feel of a room and not spend a whole of the time and money running around buying new furniture and accessories
Blue is so...not a living room color, to me. I prefer the re-do. And I agree that it's great to see everything from the same angles and so clearly see the change just with the color.
Love the blue so much better! The other color looks salmon like but warm... so not horrible.
@noixtoc, @RMF325, @LoveThisSite: Thanks for noticing and commenting on the little table. It's vintage and has sentimental appeal - my Dad made it in high school shop class during the 1950's.
The pink's not bad, but i seriously question the use of this color in a house that has any y chromosomes... even if its as small as a neutered chihuahua...
How nice that your table has such a special connection to your family! I have lots of nice hand-my-down pieces in my home, including one small table made by an uncle.
Now we know not to look for one with the same nice wood! Do they even have shop class anymore?
both great colors, for a babies room.
the pink is photographing as a horrible color..not pink at all...so at this point..i say the blue was better.
OMG..i just realized that the table was RUINED! it had an amazing white base...but it got paiinted pink too!
She owns the furniture -- if she wants to "ruin" it, she can. I'm surprised anyone posts pictures of their home with so many rude, critical comments.
I really like the pink, Pam! Your room is very inviting - warm and cheerful.
I approve of painting the white base. It would have looked too abrupt if it stayed white (though now it's a bit obviously matchy). TEAM RUINING FURNITURE.
On second thought, I preferred the blue mostly because I just don't like warm colors very much, and because of the textiles, not because it looks very vibrant or inviting (in this lighting, anyway).
OH! I like the pink!
Who ever photographed the room should have adjusted their white balance. It's really simple to do even after the task in (adobe) Camera Raw. Whoever photographed the blue should have photographed the pink too. The blue pictures are much nicer and sharper too.
Well, I think they both look nice, and good thinking taking before and after pictures from the same angles. I never seem to take decent before pictures.
I am in the process of repainting my interior. The living room is currently blue, and guess what color we had picked for that room? Salmony pink. And to think, we thought we were so original. :)
Yeah what a huge difference... personally I'm interested in doing the complete opposite. Our living room is bright orange, like home depot orange, and it looks AWESOME! But I think we might switch to a lighter cooler color. Warm colors are harder to bounce light off of, which makes the room darker usually. We have such a hard time lighting our room.
Both are great, but I'd say I prefer the "living spaces" to be light and crisp and the bedroom to be darker and warmer.
I am partial to the before.. I think the pink is competing with the space, whereas the before pictures are soothing and seem complete. Plus the honeysuckle color was just announced recently - knee jerk paint job? Maybe, like my kitchen, it looks better in person than in photographs.
Cannot say I'm as brave as Pam, however, I admire someone who dives in with paint color change gusto as she has. You can look at paint chips all day long but you won't know what it's like to live with a color until you have it up on your walls! I have been accused of decreasing square footage in my apartments by trying out new paint colors -and, as they always say, the worst thing that can happen is that if you do not like it, you can paint over it. And you can end up with some happy surprises! This salmony pink is pretty sassy - it does look cozy and feminine. Would like to see lots of white and bright colors with it.
Like the blue; hate the pink. Each to his/her own.
I like both!
Someday I will paint a room pink...I swear it.
I prefer the blue as well but that's because I just generally dislike pink. You did a nice job and it does warm up the space quite a bit.
I think the lamp is a FLOS or it could be a "knock-off". Not to cheapen it- I found a fabulous waaay cheaper knock off @ furniture2go.com that I've considered buying. Room looks great in both colors!
what is that blue color?! i love it!
