It's no secret: here on Apartment Therapy, we love Spoonflower. The ability to design and print your own fabric opens up endless possibilities for creativity and imagination. Recently, a new way to utilize the design-your-own-fabric site caught our eye — memorializing family keepsakes!

Emma from Hello Beautiful took clippings from a newspaper published on the day her mother was born (right around D-Day) and arranged them into a pretty, clever design she then printed and fashioned into a scarf.

Emma explains that keeping lots of family trinkets and heirlooms around the house can be a little overwhelming; they may be meaningful, but they can also amount to a lot of stuff to be organized and dusted and displayed. So when she came across the old newspaper her mom had saved, she was inspired to rescue it from the bottom of a dusty drawer and turn it into something useful, yet thoughtful.

She photographed the clippings and cleverly arranged them in Picasa to create her design. The result? A beautiful, useful piece of art and history that has special meaning for Emma and her family.
