When it comes to decor, there are people who like Mid-Century pieces, those who love them and then there are the folks who are drinkin' some serious Mid-Century Kool-Aid (but not this kind).
Joe and Heidi Kinder make their home in Milwaukee, and when we say they like Mid-Century and Atomic Age decor, that might be a bit of an understatement. From their car to their basement tiki bar, the place is out of sight!
Although it almost borders on a museum at this point, it's still a quaint little ranch home that benefits from their slim, clean-lined furniture. Check out more details on this space and a whole slew of photos over at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and let us know if you'd feel comfortable living in a space like this. Nomade Express Slee...
Really enjoy the colors, love a lot of the furnishings and the vibe. Having said that, I don't think I'd want to live so thematically, but would surely enjoy visiting. And how about a big party for AT'ers in the tiki room?
what fun, I love this house!
that paint blocking thing on the wall in the second pic is so cool (and appears within my skill set)
I love that they are having fun with their house. The basement is hilarious! The second pic though is the one I would take for my home. Gorg!
Yay for folks who have a passion for design! I admire their energy and enthusiasm. I have a similar vintage, spherical bar in orange/gold/green paisley vinyl. I think these bars must stem from a 60's DIY project template--as I have seen others that are nearly identical. Fun.

No mention in this article about those of us who don't really like mid-century.
I mean it's ok and all... but is it just me or is every house tour lately filled with mid-century stuff? Can we see a different style? (Especially for people like me who couldn't find mid-century stuff in their home town even if they wanted to)
It can be attractive, but it's not for everybody.
I'm with LauraInCancun. Enough already!
I don't remember anyone saying "it's for everybody". Just saying. This is great fun, NOT for everyone, just these folks who are easy going and loving their home.
I love that they are having fun with their home. Awesome job!
Oh god, that basement is INSANE. I have serious tiki envy. I want a Mai Tai now.
I just noticed that their kitchen is the least mid-century part of the whole house! Bummer. I wanted something atomic, blindingly turquoise and mind blowing.
I have a quote I tore out of a magazine on my inspiration wall that says "Homes are not meant to be museums, so avoid being a stickler for a single era." I enjoy mid-century pieces in homes, but not places that look like they're stuck in some sort of 60's time warp.
The basement is fun. I would've stopped there. Now I'm having flashbacks.....
I would live here in a heartbeat!
And you left out "those who hate mid-century modern"...
I know this is slightly off topic but I really love that the owners are pictured in the room! I like seeing the people who are attached to the spaces... for some reason it makes it more complete for me. I hope to see more of this in the future!
I think this is great. It isn't just what is in the house, everything is placed perfectly and the space is really nice. I am loving the basement too. I think it's a great way to make an unfinished basement fun and usable!
i agree with cassielynn. i love mid-century but this looks like they are stuck in a timewarp. the really special pieces are lost don't stand out against all the time-period stuff. also are those tv's even functional?? and omg, that kitchen is in SERIOUS need of an update!

I like the whole thing, but I do so very much LOVE the paint treatment in that middle photo with the avacado greens. Seriously. It's well thought-out and I like how that long horizontal painting interacts with the wall treatment.
People use the term "mid-century" like it's one thing. It's not. I love mid-century but this is way too kitschy, Fab 50s for me. But that basement is pretty amazing, and clearly this couple is passionate about collecting. So even though it's not my thing, I think it's great.
I think the lighthearted fun is just charming! It's not my thing, but I really can appreciate the love and sense of humour in this place :)
I love the aesthetics of mid-century designs. (i.e. clean lines, simple designs, colors, etc.) Yet, I do think some have a tendency to go overboard when it comes to the pieces. This can sometimes make rooms look very outdated. I personally own a few mid-century "inspired" pieces yet they are well incorporated within other types of design (persian rugs, older pieces, new pieces, etc.) so as to not be over kill. It works for me.
I loooove it...I'm a kitschy gal through and through!
(+1 for Hates Mid-Century.)
not my cup of tea personally (and i generally like mcm), but kudos to the homeowners for sharing their collection.
Only think missing in the basement is the black light poster.
that basement is amaaaaazing !
