As much as I love warm weather, there are a few things that come with it that I'm not so fond of ... As I set out making lunch yesterday, I realized -- with much anguish -- that it's fruit fly season again. They're back. And they're annoying. Luckily two of the greatest tips I've ever received here at Re-nest have been on the topic of fruit flies.
Get 'em after the jump.

First (from Jonathan) an excellent, non-toxic way to get rid of fruit flies once you've got 'em.

Second, an excellent way to keep from getting fruit flies (if you keep kitchen scraps for composting).

Fruit flies? Love 'em. They entertain and exercise the cats for hours. My only complaint is that the cats step in my plants when the flies go for the window sill.
there are actual "fruit fly traps" as well...basically a vessel that you fill with wine or banana and they fly in a hole on the bottom and become trapped (because they don't fly downwards). I like to set them free before they die.
Biology labs in schools have them, not sure where they get them from though...
